I've got a 2002 XLT with the SOHC 4.0. I just put in a KKM filter and have noticed the squeal at 2100 rpm. that a few have mentioned. I have yet to get rid of it short of taking the filter out. Has anyone found a fix for this? This is the only vehicle I’ve ever had a problem with this squeal.
I also added a throttle body spacer and it greatly improved the performance but also made the air intake squeal louder.

Thanks,

Brett

I too have both of the above mentioned items and have never had the squeal problem.

Good luck fixing it.....

Thanks.
It's got me baffled. and it's not just a little..turn up the radio and cover it up squeal either.

Just a characteristic of your intake setup, I've seen it on more than a few different vehicles with enhanced airflow, just happens at different RPMs depending on the setup.

I finally got a responce back from KKM and they said it was a sticking IAC. I could take it off and clean it and see if that works. That would be great but I wouldn't know an IAC if it fell in my lap. Any info on an IAC?

a squeel or whistle isn't IAC (why I didn't suggest it). Also, IAC moaning tends to happen at idle or light throttle.

I have a whistle noise. Not like that of an IAC "howl". It usually starts making noise around 2300 rpms. It's usually at a distinct point. I've seen other people ask about it as well, but haven't seen anyone come up with any real good causes of the whistle. I have the KKM in my '98 Sport, my friend has the same whistle in the same vehicle and engine, but no KKM. Some people have mentioned retorquing the intake manifolds, but I've tightened mine, changed the gaskets and haven't seen any positive improvements. I'd love to know how to get rid of it though.
