I have a 2013 explorer with a 3.5 Dura tech no turbo and it has this peculiar. I wouldn’t describe it as a knock. It’s like a cross between a knock and a rattle but it’s coming from the bottom near the transmission. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this issue because I can’t seem to find the problem.

Just wanted to say Welcome to the Forum.
I'm not sure what it could be but the PTU is in the same area. Have you checked to ensure any and all bolts holding various parts and covers are tight?

I can’t say that I have put a wrench on any of the PTU bolts but nothing looks out of place, also it does it in park as well as driving. I talked to a ford mechanic today and he said it could be a cracked flex plate, to try and separate the engine flywheel from the torque converter enough that it can’t spin and start it. If that fixes it then drop the engine and transmission and investigate.
