my 97 SOHC has done that for about the last 20,000 miles. I thought it was just the oil Pressure building up and thought nothing of it... there are a lot of mixed feelings on the board about it. So I have not done anything about it.... 171,000 and still going strong.

I would not like to take it to ford here in the UK and explain that sound to them . lol. But yeah I have no idea what it is but i can tell you that i have that problem on cold starts only and it goes away almost right away.
Im running Mobil 1 0W-40

ok the stuff is installed, i guess i will know tomorrow morning if it is fixed. I hope it is.

started it up this morning and the noise was still there. oil pressure is good awalys above 50psi when driving around so i am hoping that rules out the bearings. i guess it is on to another tensioner.

try the lucas yet?

I am gonna pick that stuff up tonight so i will keep you guys informed

allright last night when i shut it off i brought the rpms up to 1500 rpms (55psi oil pressure) then shut it off. and guess what, no knocking. I really don't know what to think of this.

and i did buy the lucas i just havent had time to drain a quart out so i can put the lucas in

Ive used the Lucas oil stabilizer and it didnt do a thing for the noise. At least for me it was a waste of money, but since i started using the high mileage oil the noise is pretty much gone. It only does it now when it is really cold or if it isnt started for more than 4 days or so.
