Alright, this was/is my first Big Engine project and It's gone pretty well. There was a Bit of a Struggle at the Drivers side Exahust Manifold, but other then that, It has gone really well. Now that I'm down to the heads, I have an idea of what I'm supposed to do, but not quite sure how to go about it.
1. My first question is how do I get rid of the Black char stains on the mating surfaces? I scraped off the Old gasket but I couldn't get it down to the "shiny" Metal. Is there a trick to this? I half thought of sanding it down with very unagressive sanding, but I do'nt want to create any dips or bows. So, how do I get it back to "shiny"
Here's a Picture of my block before I scraped off the old gasket.
2. LIke I said this is my first big project and I have a Feeling that I need to get the heads worked on. Haynes says that if it's pitted get it resurfaced, the surfaces are smooth, but the area around the Valves looked elongted In all honesty, I'm not sure what the head is supposed to look like around the valves. Here's a Picture.
I'm going to be checking around on monday at different machine shops to get prices. Like I said though, I'm not sure if It needs it. Please Let me know.
That's it, Thank you guys for any help.
