I installed a double DIN Kenwood touchsceen (DDX-7019) in my 00 limited and along with it I added 4 channel and mono amps (both Kenwood). They gave good sound when coupled with 2 sets of 6.5" door speakers and a pair of 1" dome tweeters (everything Kenwood).

However, I noticed that the sound quality is serious degraded when the volume is turned up (maybe half way up in volume).
I decided to "upgrade" my amps first and see if it would make a difference.
After some searching around online I came across a product line I hadn't seen or heard anything about in years... Lanzar Audio. I went to their website and went over their product offereings and chose a 2 channel and a 4 channel from their selection. The amps I chose were the MXA-282 and the MXA-422

One is a 4,000watt 2 channel MOSFET 2OHM stable

the other is a 2,000watt 4 channel MOSFET 2OHM stable

I rand 4ga power and ground to each and set the gains to 75%. I set the frequencies and such to match the specs of the speakers and subs and the increase in volume was immediately noticable as well as the sound quality. The quality of the sound was the same if not better but it didn't degrade as the volume went up. The 4 channel amp does 250x4 RMS @ 4 OHMS and the 2 channel does 1,000x2 RMS @ 4 OHMS

I'm planning on replacing my 6.5" door speakers with sets of their 500watt RMS 6.5" components and replace the subs with their 1100watt RMS 12" DVCs

I read a lot of reviews on varous site from people trashing Lanzar and the quality of their products but I have no complaints with the products I bought from them.

Not that its reccommended but I can open my 2 front doors and turn my volume up half way and my girlfriend can hear my music loud and clear word for word 2 streets over from her house. I don't play my music that loud very often but its nice to know that I have have crisp clear music coming from my truck at any volume I want to listen to it at.

Anyone interested in setting up a system with good sound clarity without breaking their pocket doing it should not exclude Lanzar from their choices.

Pics to follow by the weekend...

Lanzar used to make very good equipment back in the day. Just like everyone says that the old Rockford Fosgate stuff is waaaaaay better. But they both make good product today for what they are marketed toward. Will a sound quaility nut, who spent $10,000 on his no hold bar system be happy with them? I don't think so. But for a price vs. performance average Joe. They are worth a look at. Every product has its place in the food chain.
Most importantly as long as it sounds good to you, that is all that matters. You are the one who has to/gets to listen to it.

to be honest I was a die hard Kenwood excelon fanatic. I still believe they make superior headunits but after hearing the difference between the kenwood amps and the Lanzar amps (priced pretty closely to each other too) I have to say that I will use the Lanzar amps and buy other Lanzar speakers/subs before looking at the Kenwood stuff again. I have a Kenwood touchscreen and the accessories for it (nav, bluetooth cd changer etc.) but for amps and speakers it will be Lanzar all the way

I started this thread simply to inform anyone looking to start an inexpensive audio upgrade in their vehicle that they should consider Lanzar as well as anything else they were looking at. The quality of Lanzar's equipment has improved since the times where it was considered total crap.

Their Opti-drive line is borderline decent and .5 ohm stable, but I wouldn't touch anything else they make, even if it was on fire in a friends car and had to be removed.

Did you set your gains with a DMM or oscilloscope when you had your kenwood amplifiers? Typically distortion is a sign of dirty power, or clipping as it's properly called. As far as Lanzar being total crap, refer to the above Opti line comment. That series is made in a build house here in the U.S., but the rest of their equipment is made in the same Asian build houses as your other major flea market brands. They definitely don't put out rated power, even at 14.4 ohms, and there is much better to be had for the money that will last longer and give you much better output.
