Has anyone upgraded to a larger air flow sensor? Do they improve performance noticeably? Are they worth the money?

NO! While they sound like a good idea, all you will really be doing is throwing your money away. The performance gains are about the same as taking a couple hundred dollars (the cost of the new sensor) and just sticking in your air bo. Then just tell everyone you stuck a couple hundred dollars into upgrading your intake. Now the above is just my opinion, but I have tried two different ones, and I wasn't very impressed by either of them.

Jordan714 informed me that Performance Products carries an MAF sensor for a SOHC 4.0 made by Granatelli (?) Motorsports. Performance Products says it is good for about 10hp. I don't know for sure, but it seems to me that Performance Products is pretty reputable (unless you can tell me otherwise) and so I believe that an MAF sensor might be good for something.

JAY, what year and engine do you have? Every vehicle responds differently, but especially if you have an 4.0SOHC please let me know, as I planned on getting a MAF sensor in the near future.

I have a 1994 with a modified (cam, injectors, ect.) 4.0L.

A larger mass air and throttle body together yield less than 5hp. However, they do provide a significant improvement in throttle response. If you have a different cam, they may provide more power. In my opinion, until you get forced induction..... or high hp, naturally, they are not necessary. (yes I have them)

Hi Retrac,
You have to look at the whole picture. From input to output. a larger MAF really isn't going to do much unless you get rid of everything else that restricts the flow all the way through. Now Headers are known to be the biggest improvement in flow and HP also( aside from a turbo), finished off by the cat-back system. On the input side, the holes in the air box or a KKM type set up should come next, the larger MAF and Throttle. now the whole thing will work much better. I doubt that just a larger MAF will increase your HP by 10HP, especially if that is all you've done to the input/exhust system. Performance Products is a reputable place, but that is the claim of the manufacture, not Performance Products. They are just quoting the manufacture. Don't believe everything a manufacture says about their product. Tornado Air Management system claims to give you 5 to 10 HP and better gas milage, but I have yet to see any proof of that, and in fact P.M. and other independent labs have proven that is isn't true.
We all would like to find one thing that would improve our truck, but the fact is that it isn't just one thing. It's one thing leads to another, and another, and still another, until you have gone through the whole damn engine. Sorry this is so long. Look at it this way, if you can't sleep, just log on and read this. You'll be asleep in no time. Dead Link Removed Hope this helps.
