I am putting Wrangler AT/S 265/75/16's or 255/70/16's on my '03 EXT next week.
I have been reading through the threads(or books) on the Apten chip that folks here have been getting.
Theoretically, will it compensate for the loss of power running the larger tires, or will I still be feeling a bit under powered running the bigger tires?
I understand that with the dual programed chip, you can flip it from 91 to 87 octane or other variables as well.
Do you still see a significant power increase running it with 87 octane, or do you really need to run 91 to see the benifits of the chip?
Also, I had a K &N air induction system on my 2001 Expedition that I just sold. I have noticed though that many of you use the KKM induction system on the Explorer.
What is the biggest advantage of the KKM over the K&N system?

The biggest advantage of the KKM is price.

As far as tire size vs power, the only true way to compensate for tire size is gearing. However, the chip will give you more power and this will probably be the same or more than what you lost.

The 87 program mostly helps with tranny control, but does help power a bit. In my opinion a stock program isn't really needed since you'll keep in on the performance program most of the time, also switching octane all the time can leave you with not enough or too much octane for certain conditions.

Thanks for the feedback Alec.
I have trying to link to the website for the Chip, but it won't come up.
I have read in the threads of a performance mode, is this a higher shift position, and is it available in a single programed 87 octane only chip.
Also, any other link for ordering a chip?

They're in the process of redoing the website.

I ordered a single one for 89 octane... more performance vs. 87, not alot but every bit helps. I can justify buying 89 becuase my car is going on 80k anyway and I will have to move up sooner or later :D

I would of got premium program but .20 cents a gallon more for gas is too much for me.
