Hi All!
I was recently told when shopping for larger size tires for my '94, that if I were to get 30" tires as opposed to the stock 235/75x15's, that the larger tires would create problems with the computer due to wheel/tire RPM's, unless I have the computer re-calibrated to the correct RPM for the new size tire. Anyone ever experience this, or heard of it? I placed larger tires on my Dodge Ram pickup without any computer mods and it never caused the kind of problems I was told it would. Aside from the obvious speedometer discrepency, there were many other potential problems that could creep up. Thanks in advance, and as a first time user to this site, I would like to say that it is without a doubt one of the better sites I have seen to get info like this. Great Job to everyone!!

I am running 30x9.50's right now and I have no problems yet to date. I have had them for only like 3 months or so but nothing wrong. It will make your 94 look better also I think. Oh yeah..............Welcome.

i have read many threads on tire sizes and upgrades and i havent once seen where it would cause any problems other than if you go to large they will rub.

I started with 30-9.5-15's and never had a problem and I even have a 93 with 4wheel ABS which is the only thing I would have worried about. After the tires the speedo was acctualy more correct and they didn't hurt my power in the slightest. If you are thinking about going to 30's I say go for it and don't worry about a thing. Good luck and I hope this helps.

The difference between a 235/75 and a 30" is one inch overall, not enough to even begin to worry with. A lot of members here have gone to 31" at stock height and had zero problems.

Welcome Aboard!!

i have NO problem

actually when i added my tires ( 31's ) my speedo is EXACT............... so no worry bout that

PEACE

I also have 31's, no computer problems, but my speedometer is off by 2 mph. As long as you remember, it doesn't matter.

Ya, I was wondering, but then again I forgot all about all the hoopla over tires and X's from a couple years ago, maybe that's why they are saying it will cause problems. 30's is what I'm looking at just for a better look, and give it an appearance of a taller vehicle. I'm still mulling over the 1.5 spring lift kits.

I ran 32s for awhile before I re-geared, and I had no problems at all. But my speedo was off, and still is off, wayy off. But just keep the same pace as everyone else around you on the road, and you'll be fine :D

Does the speedo work off the computer or can you change a speedometer gear (on a manual tranny) to account for the tire size change?

You can change the speedo gear in your transfer case to at least help your speedometer be more accurate. Do a search on here, there are a bunch of threads on changing that gear.

I have the same ('94 Eddie Bauer) and it came with 235/75 tires factory. I put 31" BFG on 30,000 miles ago. Speedo is off by 3 to 5 mph at 60 (I got a ticket). The ABS light comes on intermittenly, but doesn't affect ABS because I've tried to lock it up even in snow to see if it still works, and it does.
