Leaf Springs/solid axle

So, my friend and I have a little dissagreement. He thinks that with a solid axle you don't need leaf springs, this dosn't make sence to me. I think you have to have Leaf spring with this axle, so whos right?

both... depends on how it is setup...

some solid axles run leaves, some run coils

With a solid axle, you have choices on the type of setup your gonna run. You can do leaf springs, coils, coilovers, etc..

You don't have to have leafs. You can use coils or coilovers as well.
What ever you're little heart desires can be made into reality.

It is easier to stick with the same style of suspension as the donor rig however, so I guess from that perspective it depends on the donor.

Depends on the amount of lift, the truck it's going under, the type of wheeling it will be doing(or if it's a street queen), etc. On this site, the 78-79 Bronco front axle is a popular swap and usually has a coil and radius arm susp.

dpends on the situation and who is asking.... leaves on a solid axle are probably more common..... as the donors that most peopel get their solid axles t oswap things onto had leaves t obegin with and most of the time coils or coilovers are done on the aftermrket

I prefer coils. Yeah they are abit more complicated since you have a trac bar and ra's but not bad. On the explorer they are easier to setup though since you already have coils. They also flex better with less work so in my opinion coils are the way to go. But, both have their advantages and disadvantages like most things
