I've been researching ways to soften the ride of my 00 EB and found a couple of discussions on leaf springs. I drive mostly around town and although I love my Explorer I would really like to soften the ride without sacrificing safety (I know, it is what it is, but can't hurt to ask). I got some good advice about premium shocks but I’m wondering if anyone has any advice/experience with changing the leaf springs, like where to get them and what kind. The rear shocks are self-leveling(?) If that matters. Occasionally I hear a little pump running. Thanks, love the site...

If you replace the bushings on your springs, that will smoothen out the ride somewhat. Rubber bushings will harden up after while and will not dampen the ride as much. Don't get polyurethane, because they actually are stiffer than rubber, just get the rubber bushings. I don't think that the rear springs come in different strengths, like the front torsion bars do.

Thanks for the good advice, I'll look into it. Do you know a good supplier?

Since you have the auto leveling in the rear, I would see how removing the overload leaf would affect the ride. Especially if you do not haul that much. Removing it will allow the leaf to flex much easier giving a somewhat smoother ride.

Thanks dan, please forgive me for this next question but... what's the overload leaf?
