Leaking Power Steering Fluid??

I have a leak coming from the part circled below. It’s been leaking for couple months … a silver dollar sized spot on pavement each morning.

Thing is, my power steering reservoir level has not changed at all. Shouldn’t the reservoir level be dropping? Am I able to buy just that part? Thanks much for any help!!

That’s your high pressure power steering hose. It runs down to your steering rack.

Tightening it likely won’t do anything, so if you try, be gentle. Do not overtorque it. There is a Teflon seal that goes on the end of the hose that sometimes wears out.

They can be replaced. I want to say you can get them from Ford or RockAuto…can’t remember which. You can heat the seal in hot water and get it over the fitting and it’ll shrink down if you do it carefully and don’t over stretch it.

Easy job, and cheap too!

The part you need,
AutoZone sell them, just do a search for Teflon washer power steering line. It comes as a two pack one large and one small Dorman 82540. You need the larger oring. Put it in warm water to soften the oring before installing. Do not over tighten the tube nut. The tube should move in the connection. I think, it take 15 ft/# of torque.

Does the leak ever come from directly above that ... where the movable tube meets in the connection? My hose had slipped off a bracket little lower down, and caused some extra play in that upper connection. If so, would I need to order a new hose?

Otherwise, will get that doorman two pack and get to it! Thanks again.

Clean all residue off and then you can better see where it is leaking, or if you happened to have a UV dye kit and UV light, could find it easier that way.

Yes it can also/instead leak at the hose connection. If that is where it leaks, replace the whole hose assembly.

You can buy a new hose from rock auto for less than $30 and it comes with the Orings and instruction.

Guessing the Ford/Motorcraft part is long retired. Will probably just grab that Gates hose off RockAuto. Thanks again for all the advice.
