i was wondering if there is a led replacement bulb for our third brake light and for the back dome light/cargo light. the part number i come up with for a stock replacement is a 912 for the brake light and a 211-2 for the back cargo light. i havent pulled the lights to conferm the numbers so i could be wrong. the reason im askin is because i can replace my 3156 and 3157 lights with led and my 194 with led. hope someone can help me thanks in advance

I wouldnt reccomend doing the taillights (I did them, AND my 3rd brakelight), and im not sure what term was used, but basically it made the system think I was pressing the brakes, because the LEDs use so little current, and the TC wouldnt kick in or something?

Someone will chime in, but if you dont do the resistors and whatnot, then dont do it. I DID keep my 3rd brake light LED though. Also, check eBay for ANY style LED bulb.

Use the Sylvania Bulb Replacement guide (Google it), find out what bulbs your dome lights use, and then type in the number, along with LED on eBay.
(Ex. 912 LED) you'll get TONS of results.

Hope that helps:thumbsup:

Yup, he is right. You can pop in an LED 194 bulb replacement for your third brake, but, you need to use a 25 ohm resistor or your ABS light will come on and your cruise may stop working. 912 and 194 are interchangeable in case you are confused btw. The difference between a 194 and a 912 is the size and shape of the bulb part, not the socket, and they are DARN close.

The way the ABS and cruise works, they wait for voltage to be applied to the brake lights to shut off the cruise or activate the ABS. With an LED in there, because they take so little power and have little resistance, the system thinks the light is on.

Dome and door lights are all 194, dash lights are all 194 (though there are some you should leave incandescent because the system doesn't work properly if the lights are too low of resistance) and the cargo light is a festoon bulb... I can't remember the part number.

Tail lights are 3157 as are front turn signals. Reverse light is a 3156 (3157s add an extra filament so you can actually put a 3157 in place of them) and front marker lights are 194. Don't use any of the 3157 bulb replacements, I have yet to see one that is actually as bright as they should be. If you want to replace any of those bulbs, try some of the high wattage LEDs like the ELEF 5w or at least 3w

Where does the resistor need to go and how many do I need

The 3157 led bulbs I have access to are street glow and it has 18 bright white 12vdc leds any opinions

On my old X I replaced the door, doom, map, & cargo lights with LED's. I wouldn't touch anything outside. PITA to get them to work right. And honestly they are not much brighter. And the standard bulbs do last a long time.
I got mine here..

almost NO aftermarket LED bulb replacements are as bright as the incandescent they are replacing. There are VERY VERY few that you should ever consider.

Rule of thumb, it takes a substantial amount of power to make bright light, and even though an LED is more efficient at converting watts to lumens, it still takes a few watts to equal the incandescent alternatives which are running at a MUCH higher wattage. Next rule, LEDs produce very little heat, but they also cannot operate in very high heat. This means, the chips have to be kept cool. So any LED capable of making enough light generally has a substantial heat sink.... say a full aluminum base. If you are looking at lights that have a plastic base and are made up of small printed circuit boards, it is a pretty safe bet they are not bright enough to replace a 3157 incandescent bulb.

As for the resistor for your third brake light. A 25 ohm resistor should be sufficient. Or you could wire in an incandescent bulb somewhere out of sight on the same circuit.

The best bulbs I found for the dome light and door. Is the smd leds and each bulb has 25 leds on it. 6 on each side one on top. It uses the 194 bulb base. I'm not sure about the back bulb (cargo area) that uses a different bulb. Could just change the bulb holder.

>> Search ebay for "194 smd led 25". I've used the 194 smd led 5 bulb for the dash. (not CEL or Flashers).

>> Here's what you want for the inside.
