driver's side front wheel is **** eyed after some bimbo t-boned me yesterday. What could possibly be broken?

i assume the half shaft, and the control arms are shot and possibly the front driveshaft.

what else maybe screwed.

tie rod, ball joint, strut/tower, frame?

do u got pics of damage

i got pics but none that show the damage to the left wheel area.

gonna go back when they are open tomorrow and take pics of the left wheel area.

its not **** eyed like top to bottom, its **** eyed like the steering linkage is broke.... when u turn the wheel the right tire turns and the left one only turns a little. Wheel is straight as it related to the road.

If the opposite wheel moves and this one does not, probably a tie rod, but if the ball joint is broken and the wheel is jammed in the fender it may not want to turn much either

how much we looking at for tie rods and ball joints

2003 with that kind of damage i think they would total the truck honestly but if the wheels toe is whats screwed up i don't think that would be the strut tower. more then likely its just the tie rod or something with the steering

I just called the guy at the place i had it towed to get an estimate of just mechanical damage and from what me and him were saying, from just a preliminary view he said it's most likely a tie rod and/or bent lower control arm.

Also i think it was leaking some PS fluid, which i guess could be a nicked hose or something else, but fixable none the less.

I'm waiting on the quote to see what the damage is... crossing my fingers.

it might have just been the power steering rack that got messed up. that would cause a leak and one side to turn and the other not

i'll take that in a heart beat.

The one thing I love about these trucks (and ford in general) is how easily accessible, and how cheap the parts are.

here are some pics

got a quote

$1700

$450 - straighten frame
$374 - Steering Knuckle (may not need)
$696 - Upper and Lower control arms (he said he can get used which will obviously be a lot cheaper)
$180 - tie rod ends

They're charging $95/hr for labor.

How bad is the frame? It should be totalled out if there is any frame damage at all. If you go that route you can prob buy it back from the insurance for less than a $1000 and still get the $10,000 or whatever it is worth. If you have full coverage tho and the frame is bent I would get it totalled out because who knows what problem the frame will cause later. I bought a s10 when I was younger that had a salvage title. The owner told me the frame didnt have any damage but come to find out that had it straightened. Well the passenger side never sat level and the steering was messed up. After hundreds of dollars of replacing steering parts I finally sold it since it could never be fixed.

In all honesty, the frame is not that bad, and its just a little section. I'm pretty sure part of the 450 is to take off the front bumper and transportation from the service center to the body shop and back.

I'm most likely gonna have it towed to a different place and havet hem give me an estimate. I already found places who's labor rate is less so... We shall see, going to be an interesting week.

if you can have them total it then honestly do it. i don't like frame damage at all. if you owe more then its worth on it then i hope you have gap insurance. if they can total it then steal the rear window out of it and i'll buy it off you :P i still havn't gotten mine repainted

IF INSURANCE IS PAYING FOR IT TAKE IT TO THE BEST SHOP POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!! when my mountaineer got t-boned it went straight to the porsche dealership that was known to work there magic very well.

I'll find out whats up with insurance tomorrow.

I do owe more then its worth and i dont have GAP insurance because stupid me was under the assumption it was only for new vehicles. Stupid me. Totalling it will leave me in debt and w.o a car cuz my credit has taken a nose dive since i got the mounty, courtesy of a series of unfortunate events.

As far as the work, the mechanical work I want to have done by an AAA repair center for their warranty, but the body work will be done by only the best, regardless if i pay for it out of pocket or insurance pays for it.
