Well, I guess I need to drive the wife's car more often. The left rear window will not do anything. I know that we had the same issue on the right rear and it was fixed while it was still under warranty. I was curious of any tips to get it going? I've read and apparently, it's a service bulletin sorta recall. However, only while under warranty. Anyway, I know it's common. Just what should I do to get it going? I was told that it's just seized up...anything need replacing? Any tips or info would be great.

Thanks much,
Robert

I fixed this same exact problem in my moms expo, literally 10 minutes ago in the parking lot of Sonic.....

I know, sounds stupid....give the door panel a good slapping....

Thanks for the speedy reply. That is so funny that you said that. I was just reading a thread somewhere stating the same exact thing. They were saying that the motor/gears seize and sorta bind up. They said to thump it or sit in there and really push on the door panel. I'll definitely give it a shot tomorrow. Thanks again.

just had this problem this weekend.

Slammed the door 3 times and it was working no problems again.

funny, my 05 had same problem. i dont know what dealer did to fix it tho. all i know is that it works now

similar problem for me...every now and then the rear passenger window would not go down

Ford looked at it... tested the switches... they were ok.
They slapped the door panel.. and it worked. This was their way to diagnose that I needed a new power window motor.

I had an extended warranty... they wanted to look at the truck first and when they showed up... obviously ford had it working again so they denied the claim as they could not reproduce the problem. I find it so strange that there was no other test than banging on the door panel

Its done it a couple times since then, but works sometimes.
Lately when I put the window up, I quickly press "down" for a split second... it doesn't go down enough let in air or rain and doesn't whistle when driving, but the window works every time! It must have something to do with the position the window stops in and banging on the door panel jolts it a bit.

I had the same problem, I tore the door apart and found that the wiring for the window had been placed in the track of the window instead of on the outside of it. It slowly pinched the wire until it failed.

Thanks again!

This forum is awesome. I just fixed the second of two electronic problems on my 2003 Explorer XLT by read thread here.

The rear driver’s side window had not worked in a year. I had already replaced the motor for the SAME power window a few years ago, which cost me +$300 (parts/labor).

Before making an appointment for yet another repair of the same window, I thankfully saw this forum thread.

I slapped the inside of the door a few times and then slammed the door a couples times. That did no good at first.

But, the next day while driving, I accidentally hit the switch for the rear driver’s side window (I meant the front window) and IT WORKED!!

Thanks much for the suggestion.

Same problem, same solution. Slam the door extremely hard if slapping the panel doesnt work, and it should start up again. solved the problem temporarly 3 times on mine. :p::D

The old wack-the-pannel should be the repare suggestion on theTSB; worked like a charm on both rear doors of my 06. I just held the switch in the opening position and started smacking away at the pannel until the windows opened.
thx for the tips :)

Haha, that's hillarious.
I just started to diagnose the drivers side rear window issue yesterday. Randomly stopped working in the winter, and I never bothered to look into it until now. I'll have to give this a try before I go spend $95 on a switch panel, then god knows how much on the motor. I've smacked the motor itself a bit, no change. Maybe the whole door needs a bit of a love smack.

OK, I too am amazed. Fixed a window problem in moments!
Got a 2004 Sport Trac over the summer, and it had a few nit-picking details to fix -- one being the left rear door glass not operating, never for me. I bought the rain guards for the windows, and had one window that wouldn't operate to let me install those guards... now, with a weekend day free, I was gonna tackle it. I'd already checked fuses, etc.

After not being able to figure out how the door panel comes off, I chose to google it. I'd only gotten one of the snaps out, and not the correct way.
So here I read this string about 'left rear glass' in another model, but ... what the heck?
Hit the door panel? Really?

I'd gotten the switch apart from the wiring, and had re-connected it. Hadn't even gotten the door panel off yet.

So I go back outside, turned the key, pressed the window button... and it rolled down.

It's working fine now. I'd barely touched the door panel at all, but I had disassembled the switch's wiring connections and put it back together... but whatever -- it's working now, with almost ZERO real labor needed.

Thanks again, guys. You're the best.
