2002 Sport 2wd. A little back story, the other day I was turning on a hill (took the turn a little too rough to be honest) and heard/felt a pop come from the passenger side rear end. It didn't seem to affect the driving so I soon forgot about it. Today I was walking around the vehicle and noticed that it's sagging on passenger side. A full 3 inches. I checked the underside to see if anything had broken but it all seemed in order. Any ideas what the problem could be? My first guess is that I need new leaf springs. If they're getting weak, why is the one so much worse? The odd thing to me, is that when the pop happened,i was turning right, so all the weight was shifted to the driver side. So why would that affect the passenger side?

Strange. If you've ruled out leaf springs and shackles, check both torsion bars, especially the passenger side. Like leaf springs they weaken over time but have been known the break. Front usually affects the opposite rear corner. Also check the body mounts. 2001-03 Sports and 2001-05 Sport Tracs are known for failures, especially the orange foam mounts that Sports use in 8 out of 10 locations.

Really? I figure if anything it'll cause the front to sag to a point that the wheel/tire is digging into the wheel well. How does it affect the rear end?

In any case, I'll put it up on ramps tomorrow and have a closer look at everything, both front and rear. I'm making a shopping list for when I go to the local pull a part anyway. Now, to go find that thread that talks about torsion bar load ratings...

Three inches of side-to-side lean is VERY excessive. When torsion bars are adjusted (aka torsion twist or TT) to level the front driver and passenger sides, the rear is also affected. Front passenger down lifts the drivers rear, but not three inches.

EDIT- You're correct. Looking back at the post linked below, there's NO WAY you broke a t-bar.
