Lift how-to

i have a 98 4 door, and was going to lift it about 2 inches. the front i will do torsion bar twist, but the back i wanted to use blocks under the leaf springs. then i realized my axle was sitting on top of the leaf spring. can i use a block lift, and if so, where do i put the block. or can i get an extra-load leaf that will give me 2.5 inches, and then where do i put that?? this whole "leaf UNDER the axle" thing is annoying, im sure someone must have done it before. someone help!!!

You can use Warrior Shackles or an add-a-leaf (Explorer Pro Comp) or both, but a lift block will not work, it will only lower you rear end.

No you may not. If you use blocks on the leaf under lift you will LOWER your truck. You only hae three options.
1. Add-a-leaf
2. New Shackles
3. New springs

The best one in my mind is new springs. That is costly though. Add-a-leaf gives you a firmer ride and you may not be able to do this. I'm not sure on the 98' but you might have a monoleaf. If you do the add-a-leaf may or may not work. Search this site if this is your case. The shackles gives you about 1.5-2" of lift but tend to make your springs sag a bit while still giving you the lift you want. Just don't use blocks!!!!!

Universal Extra-Load leaf

AutoZone sells a universal extra load leaf that is shaped kind of like a w, do you think i could use that? do those bend my leaf springs all the time, or only when i have extra load on it? BTW thanks for your input guys

where would i be able to get add-a-leaf? what website? how much? is procomp a website or a brand? i still cannot figure out how to torsion twist. it looks like the nut is in a grove. help....

Dead Link Removed I believe the part number for the Explorer Pro Comp add-a-leaf is #13120. Search the site and you will be able to find out more. Also, the rear end on all Explorers is the same, so if you find an add-a-leaf for a 90-94 Explorer, it will fit a 95+.

I think I'm gonna' shoot for the AAL first from Explorer Pro Comp. I found it on Summmit, $27 ea., not bad. A question for those of you that may have used the Explorer Pro Comp AAL; does the unit come with all the additional hardware? e.g. longer centering pin/bolt, longer u-bolts and new nuts? I ask only because I don't want to tear this thing apart and find that I don't have everything I need.

I've done plenty of work on friends' late model Jeep Wranglers with coil spring suspensions, but to be honest with you, this leaf spring stuff is somewhat new to me.

I just did the add-a-leaf thing it went real good it takes about an hour the kit comes with the long center bolt that you need to cut off after you git your springs togeather, but no U-bolts but the old U-bolts are ok, now with my shackles, add-a-leafs and t-bars adjusted all 4 tops of my fenders are about 36 inchs looks cool
