hold on there hasse, are you tellin me you have a Range Rover type suspension, but instead of a button, 4x4 takes it up 2". im very perplexed about that, i dont see how thats possible unless you have air load leveling suspension, which might do somethin funny. and no you prob cant keep it up.

Yes that suspension is optional on second generation limited and (i think) Eddie Bauer's. But i'm not really sure on whether you can actually keep it up that way all the time. I think most of the guys that do the serious wheeling either did not get that option or just turn it off indefinitely.

well, yea when i turn the switch to 4 wheel low my explorer does raise 2 inches. i do have the air ride system. I was also wondering is there anyway to lift the 95 explorer.. I know theres a way just haven't found it yet please respond if you know

Well you have a few options:

a performance accessories 3" body lift ($125 or so)

a trailmaster 4" kit that must be modified ($1250)

a superlift 4" kit that must be modified (?)

or you could wait for RCD to come out with their 4" coilover kit, but it's quite pricey (approx. $2000)

superlift? 35's?

what superlift kit is that? and what modifications are needed? as you can tell i'm thinking about lifts...if i go with the RCD and 35's, will changing the gears to 4.56 be enough? how will the rest of the front end hold up. also, how much would it cost to change my gear ratio, and would it be neccessary if only running 33's. one more thing, if i decide to go w/ the superlift, and plan on paying a shop to do it, approx how much can i expect it to be? thanks, Tim

wow lots of questions

1.superlift kit for the 98-01 ranger
2.You must modify the the thing that holds the torsion bars on to the frame, it has to be cut off and then rebolted....this is explained in detail i previous posts
3.4.56 will be perfect
4.your front end will probably be strained very heavily running 35's with the trailmaster, maybe not as much as with the RCD or superlift
5.the price depends...couldn't tell you exactly, it varies too much
6.depends on your current gear ratio, if you have 4.10, it will be fine, and you'll also be able to drive them with 3.73's
7.Don't know of any shops around here that would do it...

If you get the kit for the '95-97 Ranger, you have to make your own bumper brackets and possibly a few other things. If you get the kit for the '98+ Ranger, you have to slightly modify the bumper brackets and get a steering extension from the '95-97 kit. I've got the '98+ kit sitting in the garage waiting for me to have time to put it on.

john is that a ranger steering extension i'll need? and how do you talk people into putting it on for you. also is there any danger in me putting this body lift on my car

Yeah, it's all Ranger kits. There are no Explorer kits for '95 and up.
Is there a danger? Same amount of danger as lifting anything else. It raises your center of gravity, so you'll have to go a little slower through the turns. Nothing like turn the wheel slightly and instantly roll over and die or anything like that though. You just have to use your head a little more.

Sorry it took so long to respond. I haven't been home to check the boards recently.

how do you talk they guys at a offroad shop into putting this life on your explorer. Cause i'm sure they wouldn't want to do it..Heres a question out of the blue too is there any body in tulsa oklahoma that could put this life on for me i would pay the same as a paying a ofroading place

I'm putting the lift on myself. (when I finally quit being lazy and putting it off)
As for a shop doing it, your money is just as green as anyone else's. Just tell them they'll have to do a little work on getting the bumper brackets to fit right. I don't see why they wouldn't want to do it. So long as they get paid they shouldn't care. Just go to a good, reputable shop.

performed the 3" Body lift on a 95 Sport

Well I finally did it...I installed a 3 inch Body Lift on my 1995 Explorer Sport 4WD. It wasn't as hard as I figured. It took me about 8 Hours though. I used the PAW Ranger kit that everyone on here talks about. Funny thing is, I didn't have to worry at all about the Steering extender as there was sufficient room to just let the steering slip onm its own to accomidate the Body lift. I did order the Shifter extender (I have a 5 speed Manual). There was a problem with two bolts that were too long but I added extra washers to make up the difference. The Radiator drop down brackets took alittle work to fit them in but they worked out great! I did have to modify the rear bumper brakets to make them work (Lucky I have a weilder and a plasma cutter) and used both the new brabets and the original ones and made new ones to fit. The rear bumper is perfect now. I did have to drill a new hole behind the rear licence plate in order to access the let-down for the spare tire, but its hidden by the plate!! The front mount worked OK without any modification. The front bumper does lean slightly down but its not really noticable! No I need to get the new tires. Looks like I should beable to run 32x11.15x15 tires on the stock rims(I want BFG Mud terrians and then when I can afford it some new alloy rims!). without any rubbing at all! I will post some pic's if anyone requests them. I'll also outline how I modified the rear bumped brackets if there is any interest in that. Last week I also installed the Flowmaster CAT back exhaust system (uses all the stock mounting locations and sounds just right..(just a hint of a rumble). Looks like next will be the chip, the KN filter. Let me know if anyone has questions or wants pics and I;ll load them up!Dave's rockin Explorer
