someone is gonna have to spend some money and get creative... There has been alot done to first gens and well the others too that people didnt make a "kit" for. Just a matter of who is gonna be the first to figure out what works and what is needed to do it.

Kinda like a turbo on a X.

i don't want solid axles, i just want to figure out how to drop my diffs, then use bigger coil's and shocks i think i would need wider control arms too. i think it could be pretty simple. just a simple bracket to lower the diffs then go from there some plus 6 inch coils! ya know?

yea it wouldnt be too tough, just that u have to makeshift a solid mount to withstand all that torque comming from the differential.. and u mite have to put a different brand of struts on it as well... wouldnt look too shabby and maybe that frame wouldnt look as shameful hanging down like that... i like to call it frameshame.. the 3rd gens have enough of it

Frame shame. my 2002 doesnt have that it is cause the ones you seen have the plastic removed.and you can see so much of the frme. on my 1995 if i didnt have my rinnign boards on yopu would soo ohh soo much of the frame.

yea dude i had the stock metal step bars but i took them off as to make it seem that i had more clearance and it just kinda made the frame look worse... i recently high-centered turning around on a TINY clump of dirt... pissed me off beyond belief... if these things had an LSD rearend or a rear end locker it would help an assload... BTW if anyone has seen that coilover adjuster kit, i called them and i asked if it would fit because it is a strut and his words were "no i guess they wont" but i dont understand y they still have it listed if it wont work? i think someone may have bullshitted me.. the solution i went with was stronger springs in the stock shock aborbers.. wheel travel isnt very limited and it looks nice.. body lifts should never be spoken of for this gen explorer... way too much frameshame stock...

hey just fyi, your ex has coilover shocks from the factory and they do come with a lsd if you have the tow package.

no it isnt, but this thread should have been over after the 1st page. its all talk...in a nutshell, theres no way to lift your third gen explorer (besides putting a little bigger tire) without fabricating a whole new rear suspension, and i dont know about you but i dont see anyone doing that anytime soon. wether u like it or not a 3rd gen will never be anything more than an grocery-getter. yes you may be able to steer off the asphalt into some dirt and hills but inowhere fun!!! you try taking your 3rd gen the places that 2nd gens go and see what happens, even if you do have on your cool 265/75's. i know im prolly gonna get alot of negative feedback about this post being that sooo many members on here think their 3rd generation explorers can "go anywhere", i bet my lightning could follow you guys on the trail

ummmmm i disagree with some of this.... thats not the only way to lift it... yea the tires is a way to get "true" clearance but u can still put in larger springs to get some extra height and even u agreed with me... just hte fact of the matter is that there isnt a kit for it out there... and if i can recall, i dont think lightnings r made for offroad use and y would u take it offroad anyway? dont u want it to be made and customized for pavement?

Mine went through paragon 3 times, granted it was on nothing harder than a blue 1, but it still did it. and that was with the stock tires no less.

lol my lightning comment was supposed to be a joke....but if you put larger springs in all four corners then it will ride likie total **** because you have completely changed the spring rate=really stiff ride......not to mention if you lift the rear more then an inch or so your gonna have MAJOR camber issues. imo its just a lost cause, i loved my ex when i had it but modding the damn irs is just soo limited it gets to be a hassle that i gave up on....

i never said that, when you put bigger tires on you get hardly any lift, inch or inch and a half is hardly any when you have im mind the limits of this truck, and yea buddy the 3rd gen was new to the market like 5 years ago

Well here is some news for everyone, I was recently looking through my new petersens 4 wheel and off road mag and found an advertisment in there that there is a company making a 6 inch lift for new style expeditions, which have the same frame setup as the explorer. I'll have to go back and look for it but I think it started with an R. Maybe I could search for on the net
