I had the hinges replaced by the dealer in accordance with the recall notice at Brien Ford, Everett, WA and now the liftgate glass leaks along the top edge of the glass.

I'm really pissed at the dealer. It took three trips to the dealer to get the recall done:

1. first trip so the service writer could see which type of hinges were installed on my car. He said there were two different types used in 2003.

2. second trip to take the car in to have the work done.

3. third trip to pick it up.

Each trip took about 1.5 to 2 hours of my time. Instead of making things better, they made them worse.

Two days later, I went to the car wash. I looked in the rear view mirror and saw water running down the inside of the liftgate glass.

Anybody run into this problem? How did you fix it? I am not sure I want to ever go back to the dealer. This is not the first time I've had shoddy work done there. They are in such a hurry to get the cars in and out that they don't take the time to do the job right.

Well, I bought mine in Oct. and while I was discovering how the liftgate worked,i.e. opening the glass only, I noticed that it didn't seat all the way. I took it to the dealer the next day (2nd day of ownership) and asked how it worked. They told me it was a recall item that would be coming out in Jan. and they would let me know when the parts were available to fix. So at the end of Jan. I check again and they say a few more weeks. Once the part comes in I leave it to be fixed and come back to pick up and the glass portion is still not right, it is out by about 3/8s and whistles at speed. A body shop told me to live with it because they have very little success in fixing this problem. Back to dealer who say they will fix on thursday. Told them they have to eat it and I'm not paying. We'll see what happens.

There are 2 different kits available, but my dealer seems that it is worthwhile to stock both (duh)... The hinges have seals on the (both the old and the new)... It seems to be possible (although I have never done it) for the seal on the old hinge to stick to the body, and end up doubling up the seal causing a leak. Also make sure that the glass is operating just as it was before you took it in to make sure that it is adjusted properly.
