Hello all,
I have a question about the TT and Shackles lift. I have been reading all of the posts (well most of them) and have taken some of the information with me to local places (pep boys) and a local tire shop. All of which have been giving me problems with what i told them i want to do. After reading some information i have gathered that with a stock 2000 explorer sport, i can run 31-10.5-15's with no mods, they say i cant. Then they said i would have to get a 8'' rim, cuse it wouldn't fit on the stock 7'' and it would pop the bead if i hit "anything". I want to get Mickey Thompsons Baja Claw Radials and called them, and they said it was "OK" to do ..or really what he said was "yah that SHOULD work i guess"..I really want to know if its ok before i drop $600 on tires that i really dont "need".......2nd problem was when i went to the place to have the torsion bars done, he said that i would then have to get an aligment and that with that kind of torque he would not have the ability to get the wheels back straight and wanted me to see if i can get some info from you guys about spec's if you have them. 3rd thing is that again i went to see about ordering the 2'' spacer for the back leaf spring, they told me that it would be tooo much lift as apposed to the front, and i just saw the post about the warrior 153 shackles....which is better, they are both about the same price??????....and i know everybody says this but i really have been reading alot and have not found anything about having a problem with the aligment.

Yes you can run a 31x10.50 on a 7 inch wide rim (stock). Many people run 33x12.50 on only an 8 inch wide rim. For the torsion twist, if you twist them until you get 2" of lift you'll still be able to get it aligned fine. There aren't any 2" spacers for the rear. The rear can either have the Warrior 153 shackles like you mentioned, an add-a-leaf, or leaf spring swap. You should either just run the warrior shackles or swap in 4dr Explorer leaf springs. Since you have a sport, you have a monoleaf so you won't be able to run an add-a-leaf without 4dr springs. BTW, welcome to the site :)

and thats it right? i shouldnt worrie about what the guy is saying about not being able to align, and just tell him to do it really...and ill get the warrior, i like to make things as simple as i can. The whole reason for the tt and shackles is just cuse you guys made it sound sooo easy and simple, and they these guys were like causing me all kinds of greef...thanks for replying so fast bmxking5...any other problems i should be aware of in doing this???.....and thanks for the welcome!!!

the TT and shackles are incredably easy to do. When you get it aligned it will be almost the same as stock if not the same, likely that the camber will be a little off but you experience that with a lot of lifts. other than that there are no problems at all to worry about...good luck

Thanks BigDave, the way i was reading it, it sounded like it was... so i was really confused when the local guys didnt have a clue and I knew they were wrong, but I wasn't confident in what i was saying so i just really wanted to confirm with you guys personaly.

thanks again guys, ill be posting before and after pictures really soon.......thanks to this forum and your help, i should have the best looking sport in my area..
