1998 Explorer XLT 4x4
I own a 98 XLT. What are my different options for a slight lift? like 2-3"

Would like to be able to fit bigger tires on the vehicle for winter and maybe some mild offroad (nothing major like cliffs or ditches)

I have been doing some reading and keep hearing about 'shackles' 'blocks' different leaf springs / shocks and springs.

I used to do the lowered car thing a loong time ago when I was younger so I have a general understanding of suspension.

What would be my best bet for the results mentioned above easy / bang for buck?

Any thorough threads on this that explain differences or options?

Now I have one for you. If a train leaves Boston at 4:30PM traveling to Omaha at 77mph (non-stop), and another train leaves Helena Montana (the Capitol) also toward Omaha, but only at 53mph, at 2:25PM the same say. Which train will arrive first?

Not even close. You could only pull about 2" out of the front. 2nd gen SOAers typically have a 4" superlift in front, or a solid axle swap. One or two have done a 'sloped body lift'.
 






99e - Was just watching a pretty good video on a torsion install for an 03 F-150. It should be the same (very similar) on explorers. From what the guy says looks like it may only be good for 2.5" max. Not sure how true that is but that would be just what I am looking for. The install looks fairly easy as well (especially for someone like me wo has never done anything as far as lifting).

this is my first lift im just trying to gain knowledge before i move forward with anything. i did see online that some did do a 3" lift with torsion keys and also added 3" spindles to balance the front and back. any pros or cons to that method?

If you're 2wd the 3" spindles are a great option. But they won't work on a 4wd. Your cv's (front axle shafts) are the limiting factor when lifting the front. They can only handle about a 2" lift from stock. So how you get that 2" doesn't really matter.
 






yeah i have a 2wd. so i should invest in the 3" spindles? i already have a shop telling me they can do the leaf conversion for 100$ so im gonna jump on that. my problem is finding a way to lift the front 6" to match the rear. will the spindles help take stress off my cv's even if i do the 3" lift torsion keys as well?
 






if i do the spindle lift do my brake lines/hoses need extensions?
