Tow capacity

How do I find out the tow capacity of my 2002 XLT. I would like to pull a boat but it's a very heavy cruiser appox 2000kg and I don't want to strain/break anything. I've been towing it with a Nissan Patrol 1992 manual with no problems. Is there anything I should look out for in the Explorer. I don't have much experience with manuals so have a concern with towing with them.

7000lbs for the V8, about 5500 for the V6

also depends what class hitch you have.... class 2 = 3500lbs class 3 i believe is 5000lbs

Did they make a manual 4-door explorer? Or does he have a sport?

Research says an 02 Sport has a 5,000lbs capacity.

There were some 4-door 2002's that came from the factory with a manual transmission. There aren't many, but they do exist.

Sorry guys a typo, I've 4 door auto sorry. I've never teally towed with an auto so don't know their capabilities.

If it has the large 2" Hayman Reece square receiver (which it should), then towing capacity is 2300kg. I wouldn't expect much more than about 240km range though, towing a 2000kg boat.
