You mentioned having NEW upper control arms in your OP. The nuts are known to come loose if not torqued to the 100 ft/lb. spec. Seems to be even more common when using camber bolt kits

THIS.... sort of .... apparently the guy at Sears Tires / auto center here FORGOT to tighten up rear UCA bolt on this side...when he just did the alignment a few days ago - just had new tie-rods installed so needed another alignment.......I put a wrench on it and it was totally loose! Tightened up and all is good again! The Democrats out here in California thought it would be a good idea to legalize dope...and this is an example of the by-product of that o_O:dunno:
Going to be heading back for second alignment now.....

Thanks for everyone's suggestions / input .... we'll keep these beasts on the road with perseverance and the wealth of knowledge here!

mine was the ujoints frozen in one axis had to remove shafts replace the ujoints there are moog ones too with oil bibs but you know they eventually freeze up causing rubing on the hubs

Hey gang,
Being lazy here again....but doesn't hurt to get some suggestions before jacking up the old beast again for diagnosing...
So as of lately if/when I brake while going over a bump (size irregardless) I hear some light clatter/thumping at my right wheel.... does NOT do it when braking on smooth / flat pavement....seems to do it a hair when turning ...but not always.
This started happening after doing some mild off-roading.
So.....what's the likely culprit?
Cracked brake pad?.... would a troubled CV joint emit this?

**Have NEW upper control arms / upper ball joints and all NEW inner/outer tie-rods...all other bushings look good /solid.
I have the same problem and I came to think its the brake calipers!!!well if you find it ID like to know....

Heh, he just posted the solution two posts ago, loose upper control arm bolt.

:D

Welcome to the forum !

... except, you are in the wrong forum as your 2003 is a 3rd generation Explorer, which may share some design traits with the 2nd gen, but was a complete redesign that also had several differences.
