Hi, I will be picking up my truck next weekend.

I will have MFT with NAV and DVD in the headrests.

Will I be able to in park play the same DVD on all the screens?

Are the DVD's linked or separate?

My understanding is they are independent DVD players meaning each screen has a separate DVD slot. You can watch different movies on each of the headrests. I'm not sure if you can watch the same thing on both or not.

When I researched this feature, I was told it was not integrated with MFT/Sync at all. The DVDs cannot be controlled from the front of the vehicle and the DVDs insert into the headrest players directly. This was a big drawback for me. In our Honda Pilot, the DVD slot is in the front center stack and you can control from the buttons on the radio as well as a remote control in the backseat. This integration makes the system more valuable to me.

I ended up saving the $1800 on the factory Ford system and installed aftermarket headrests from onfair.com in my Explorer. Installation was rather easy and they work the same as the Ford system in that all controls are in the headrest player. They are connected together so you can watch different movies on each player or the same movie on both players. Biggest drawback is the actual headrest itself. It is not as thick as the factory headrest and does not tilt forward enough for the front passenger to comfortably rest his/her head while traveling. Working on solutions for that but haven't come up with anything yet. This system cost $300 delivered and I installed with help from my father in about 2-3 hours.

If you search in the Modified forum, you will see various options for the system I installed as well as people using iPads as well.

I have the DVD system. All above is correct about controlling DVDs from the front seat. you can't watch the DVDs on the Nav screen or control the players from there.

However, in the headrest screens, each has it's own DVD player/slot. You insert the DVD from the top behind the screen vertically. You can play a seperate movie or video input on each screen. You can also watch the same movie/video input on both screens. you do this by inserting your DVD/video input on the driver's side headrest and playing from there. It is the "master" player. Then you select that input on the passenger side screen if you want to see the same thing. The driver's side also dictates the fm channel that audio is broadcast on if you want the sound through the car speakers and not the headsets (headset sound is dictated by the switch on the headsets).

I have the electronic version of the manual for the Ford OEM Invision headrest DVD system. You should be getting the "LT" Series which has the USB connection on the DVD player.

I also can PM you the installers guide if you care to see how they are wired.

Make sure you register them to get your warranty.

I agree with the previous comments, I too wish the MFT slot was DVD and not CD only. That way you could watch the same video up front on the MFT screen while parked. Now you have to use the RCA jacks in the Media Hub.

Not sure I understand the desire to watch movies on the front screen while sitting parked? I know the explorer seats are comfortable but how much time do you really spend sitting in your parked vehicle?

Not intended as a smart a$$ comment - I've just never cared about that feature or lack thereof.

OK, makes sense.

I would only want to watch in the front if I was waiting for someone.

So do the headrest DVD players have line out? if so, would I just line out to the RCA plugs on the MFT?

Exactly when I use it, sitting in parking lot of a store while the wife or kids are shopping.

I wanted to see about the line out as well. Or whether or not you could just tap into the line between the master DVD and the slave DVD.

So to make it a clean install I thought I would just go in behind the media hub and plug in an RCA splitter (Y cable 2 leads into one) for each connector. Red/White for audio and yellow for video.

But getting in there isn't that easy.

So if you do it please take pictures for the rest of us that want to copy.

Just to correct some information, you can watch a DVD from either player on either screen. Each screen has the ability to watch what is playing in the other player. So if you have movie A in the left and B on the right you can have the following:
A B
A A
B B
B A isn't possible, I tried and it didn't work.

We have never used the FM transmitter function or tried the AV or USB inputs, so I can't speak to those functions.

The FM Transmitter function is honestly terrible.

Basically you tune the MFT system into a couple of predetermined FM stations and the audio from the DVD movie comes through the vehicles sound system.

I have no idea why they chose this wireless method of tying in the vehicles stereo system and the DVD system together but its very poor quality audio.

Tried it a couple times and have never used it since.
