Hi all:

Having recently rebuilt the (open) rear differential on my '01 (worklog below),

http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110827

I'm thinking about how it wouldn't be too hard to put in a Traction Lock unit. I know 4D eplorers with the towing package come with LS rears, but do Sports? My biggest concern is that because of the short wheelbase and high cg, putting in an LS might actually make things worse in low-traction situations. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
John.

Putting in a LS wouldn't hurt the vehicle at all with it's wheelbase. It might be, however, more expensive then putting in a "lunchbox" locker, something like the Powertrax No-Slip unit. I'm pretty sure the sports came with LS, i know the first gen x's did cause my brother has one.

I love the L/S in my Sport. I haven't had any problem with it due to the short wheelbase.

Consider a power trax unit, best bang for the buck IMO, love mine

Hi spindlecone:

I've read that Power Trax units make a lot of noise as they engage and disengage. Is that true of yours? Is it noticable or objectionable?

Regards,
John.

The PT no slip system is silent when driving, not noticible.
