hey, quick question. im trying to hook up a legacy amp to the stock head unit by unhooking the sub amp and using a line output converter to convert the wire into RCA outputs. i was looking at some website though and they said for certain sound systems, u need to use a certain line converter. i have 99 EB with the MACH sound system, does anyone know what i need? hopefully this makes sense...

all you need is to find the speaker wires and then wire the LOC (line output convertor) off of those speaker wires.

i use these all the time at work especially on newer cars where the person just wants to ad a sub. they work pretty well and save you from buying a whole new stereo.

You will not be able to use the lines going to the speakers. The MACH system has a built in crossover to limit the bass going to the door speakers. Using those wires, you will have little to no bass. Been there, done that.

Try to find the signal wire coming from the headunit to the stock amp for the sub. You should be able to just connect an RCA plug to that since it will already be pre-amp.

But do not use the door speakers to run the line converter to power a sub. It will not work.

thats what i was planning on doing, there are i think 6 or 8 wires going into a harness that plugs into the stock amp. i was just planning on cutting the speakers wires (going to the amp) and plugging those into the converter, i guess now my only problem is figuring out which wires or the speakers wires. if you know, which wires are the speaker wires?

i usually take the signal from behind the stereo incase in the future they upgrade that and need to plug the RCAs into the new stereo.

there are 8 wires going to speakers. i always take the lead from the rear two that way they can fade to the rear if they want more bass and fade to the front to have less.
sorry i dont know the wire colors off hand.. i would reccomend buying an adapter harnes and that will tell you which ones are the rear speakers and also which is positive and negative.

well i wasn't really planning on hooking the converter up to the rear speaker wires, i was going to just hook it up to the wires going into the stock amp for the sub (im only putting in a 2ch amp for some 10" subs, im leaving everything else the stock). Also, i've been looking for a harness online but i haven't found a good one at a good price yet. i would much rather use a harness so incase i sell my car i can just unplug it from the converter and plug it back into the stock amp.

a

cardomain has them for around $8. pretty good price
