loading up on fuel

I have a 2000 mercury mountaineer with 160,000 miles on it and the timing chain rattles in side the cover. But to the problem when its cold out and the trucks cold you can drive it for little bit like 1 minute then it starts loading up it loads up once and then its fine what could cause this. Could it be that the rear timing chain is off by a degree and it loads up. Cause the tensioner is out in the back need help.
