I want to put in a Superchip chip in my 99 4 dr xlt v6 sohc Explorer, but can't find the computer to get the code.
The Superchip web site said it was under the hood on the firewall, drivers side. Alas, there it is NOT there.
Help, please. Where oh where is the darn thing hiding?
Thanks in advance....

Thanks for asking...

I have the same question. Somebody maybe have a picture of it? That's one of the things I need to get to on my conversion.

I'm glad you asked.

Ok guys, lets see if this will help. This is from the Smartyparts site http://www.smartyparts.com/Cars/ECU_Location_Ford.htm .This is what it looks like, but theres a good chance its on the passenger side of the firewall, like in the V8.

Thanks for taking the time to answer. I have seen that pic before. The computer is simply not there. Further the Superchip web site says that ALL Explorers 1991-2000 have the computer on the firewall, driver side, YET. the Smartyparts web site that you referred me to says Explorers 1995 and newer, the computer is on the firewall AND that on 1991-1994 the computer is behind the drivers side kick panel.

I am confused. Why the two different location advise.

I still have no clue where mine is located. HELP, please.

Aldive, check the engine side of the firewall, passenger side, right next to the hood hinge. I just checked the Haynes manual, and it shows it in that place, and doesn't designate between V6 and V8, just says 95 and newer. That's exactly where mine was. Only thing that I can say to explain the differences in where people say it is, is that someone isn't taking the time to check properly.

Actually, they get moved around. Probably some sort of cost savings for Ford and or warrentee work.

Anyway, Its either on the firewall, or behind the passenger side kick panel in the interior.

I have also heard that they can be behind the drivers side kick panel, but I have not found one there yet.

Thanks

Anyone with a picture, heck, I am not even sure what I am looking for.
Thanks....

Found it!

On my 94 XLT, I found it behind the passenger side kick panel.

and a view from inside the truck. It's the box with the 60 pin connector on it.
