2021 Explorer has a lock button on the liftgate (right next to the close lift gate button). Can this be disabled?

Thanks

There might be something in Vehicle Settings. I'm sure you can set the fob to unlock all doors or just the driver's side. There may be a similar setting for that lock button.

I didn’t see anything. Just want it disabled.

I love using that button it's convenient when using the hatch so you don't have to walk around to the doors or use the fob in your pocket.

Just curious as to why? As mentioned above it is a very handy feature to have. There are no settings that I'm aware of to disable it. Perhaps it can be done using FORScan.

I park my car in my garage and leave the keys in the car. I seem to keep hitting the wrong button (obvoiusly not paying attention) and then locking the door with my keys inside. You cannot unlock by pressing again. So I need to use the code or the app to unlock the doors. It's not a huge deal, was just curious.

Perhaps it is best to use the foot activation for the 'gate' if you have that option or put a sticker of some kind on it to help differentiate it from the other button.

I thought of the sticker idea. If there was a quick fix, I would do it. Otherwise, it's not that big of a deal.

Can you actually lock the car with the keys anywhere in it?

Yes!!! The first time I did it (and I didn't have the door code). So I had to climb through the back of the car (over 3 car seats) to unlock the door.

If the keys are left upfront, then yes, it is possible due to the distance. If the keys were left further back then I doubt the doors will lock. I did some testing on that a couple years ago.

I don't know if you can disable the button, but you can set it so that it only unlocks the tailgate and doesn't raise it.

This topic is about the inside switches on the liftgate not the outside switch to open liftgate.

Heh... tech makes people forget the obvious... unplug the connector to the switch. Or, if integrated into multiple switch panel, take the insert out of the plug and pull out the appropriate wire/contact the switch is switching, leaving the rest in the connector and plug back in. Insulate the floating contact you pulled out.

Pushing the 78 and 90 button on the number panel usually does the same thing as the lock button on the fob.

Yes, yes it does.

That is true but that isn't the issue here.
