Ok here's the deal. jasonb and I were gonna install ours at the same time, but our schedules haven't been coinsiding with each other lately, well mine anyways. So I am gonna do this on my own.

General Info: D35 IFS Lock Rite going in it.

1st: Does anyone have a step by step write up on it, other than the one that came with it?

2nd: I'm guessing that the entire carrier has to be removed from the diff., but mine is not wanting to come out too easy. What is the best way to get it out?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have any write up for you Josh, but i don't see why the carrier has to come out? I had my carrier out in my D30 when i put it in, but it wasn't that big of a deal. I'm assuming you took took the 3rd member off the truck right? If so, if you've got it on a work bench then you should be able to finagle that thing around.

Yeah, its out of the truck. See here's the thing, the ring gear is too thick for the pinion shaft to come out, so I've taken the ring a loose from the carrier, but it doesn't slide side to side enough, because of the pinion gear, to get the shaft out. So thats why I'm thinking the whole carrier has to be out.

I know with my 4.88's (with the D35 IFS) I had to remove the carrier and take off the ring gear before the cross pin would slide out.

The way I've always removed stuborn carriers, is with the housing mounted securely (usualy in place on the Rig, which won't work for the D35 IFS) wrap a racheting strap through the carrier and to another secure spot and start racheting. once its sufficiently tight, knock the carrier with a mallet and it should come popping out.

i remember gerald saying he had to remove the carrier as well. good luck josh! i'll be starting on mine this weekend probably!

Yep, ya gotta remove the carrier to do it because the ring gear has to come off to remove the cross pin. Just make absolutely sure you put everything back in the way you got it out so you don't mess up your ring and pinion setup. I did ExplorerEB96's earlier this summer. I had the axle out on the bench, and the carrier came out with a little tapping. Once I removed the bearing cap bolts, I suspended the axle housing over a milk crate with the carrier hanging down and smacked it from behind with a mallet. Popped the carrrier out easily.

Be careful when putting the spring pin back into the cross pin, it's a pain in the ass and it bends too easily !

What about putting the carrier back in, will it just sit back in place or will there have to be some hammering done.

Is it best to use brass mallet?

Carrier should just set back in. But like Jeff said, be sure to keep everything on separate sides of the bench when you take it out so that when you lay the bearing caps back on and start torquing you know it's right. Also, check with Ford or a service manual to see what ft. lb. you should apply to that, that is very important.

As Josh said, the carrier should just about set back in. You might need to **** the bearings at a slight angle to get it started, and then tap on the carrier not the bearings with a mallet (I used the back end of my hammer which has a rubber cover) to get it in place. Once the bearings are lined up and in place, you can draw the carrier in with the bearing cap bolts. Take your time! It's not hard to do, but you can really Fubar something if you rush it.

Ok, I have the locker set up in the carrier, I have the pinion shaft that came with the locker down the middle, but the lock pin will not go through the hole. It slides right through the stock one. Can I use the stock pinion shaft?

One more question, is the locker supposed to be able to turn, or does it need to stay in one place?

It was easy once I figured out how to put the pins in the right holes.

I don't know about the pinion shaft Josh, so i'm not even going to guess.

The locker will not "turn" like the spider gears did. The pieces that have the teeth (can't remember the name of them) will move and turn, that's what makes it a locker that unlocks. Know what i mean?
