im trying to put in a line output converter to a stock head unit for mach sound system, but i was told that you can't install a loc to the speaker wires for the mach system because it has a built in crossover system that limits the amount of bass going to the speakers. first off, is this true? and if it is, is there anyway i can hook the loc up to the wires then going to the sub amp? there are four wires going into the sub amp , blue, black, brown, and pink.. anyone know where the best place to hook it up is?

No, door speaker amp is integrated into the head unit.

You can put a lince converter on the output of the sub's amp. On the line converter there are 4 wires for inputs. Hook one of the negatives and positives together and just tape them up. Use the two remaining inputs as your input. All this does is raises the impedence of the live converter so there isnt as moch power coming out of the sub amp to burn the line converter up. I have had 3 second Gen Explorers and have done this to all of them.

ok, but the four wires on the LOC are: left+ left- right+ right-. does it matter which side (left or right) that i plug together? or can i just hook up both positives (on the loc) to the positive wire (going to the sub amp) and both negatives to the negative wire?

You hook a negative from one side to the positive of the other. So like left+ to right-. Also you will need to turn the gains of the LOC down to about 1/4 or less.

I'm confused here. If you use a left + and a right - isn't that gonna cause greater output from the amp? Sounds like that would bridge the amp. I've used a converter in my Mustang and I matched my wires for the connection i.e. left to left positive to positve. Sure this works if you've done it before but sounds like it would put your speakers out of phase.

Dont worry about the load on the amp, most LOCs are 16Ohms or more. You are making less load on each side of the LOC to keep from burning it up. By running the inputs of the LOC in series, they each only receive half of power from the amp; while if you put them in parallel, they will receive equal power...which will make the LOC melt. It will not cause a phase problem.

The amp puts out 50watts(RMS) at 8 Ohms. So if you put that into 16 Ohms, you would get 25watts. Most cheap LOCS cant handle 25 watts on each channel. By wiring it like I do, you will only be putting 12.5watts on each channel; any LOC should handle 12.5watts.
