To make a long story short, I had to have my timing chain tensioner replaced, it was literally "broken." Well they got the tensioner on, put the engine back together and didn't set the timing. The idiots thought oh things just need to break in so they let it run for ATLEAST a half hour OFF TIMING. So once they figured out they needed to set the timing, they took it all back apart, set it and all was good so I thought. I get the truck back and it has an oil leak and then there was a slight tapping noise coming from the front right wheel well. Anyways, they find that they stripped a thead in the left head causing the oil leak so now they have to replace the head. So they take BOTH heads off and come to the conclusion that there was a noisey lifter in the right head causing the tapping noise. They finally get everything back with new lifters, reground valves, etc. Well they put the heads on and put everything back together and now the timing chain is clackin again.
Come to find out the dumb dumbs put a gear on backwards so again they have to tear it down and do it all over agian. I FINALLY get it back and there is still a tap/knocking noise. Now, before the supposed new lifters, the old ones would chatter very bad in the morning on a cold start, they still do it with the "new lifters" though they seem to be getting a lot better so I'm thinking they are finally "breaking in" as I was told.
My problem is, I was told with the fresh valves and new lifters, thats going make the compression raist back up and they it could put extra stress on the bottom end which has a 130,000 miles. This combination could cause a knock in the bottom end is what I was told and now I'm getting worried that this knock/tap that is still there is the bottom end? Mind you, my truck was SOUND when it went into the shop with the exception of the clacking timing chain. I need some advice, I love my X and don't want to get rid of it for another vehicle. What are some of your thoughts on this situation based on the B.S I have gone through for the past almost 3 months. If you do think it is the bottom end knocking, it's very faint, not a harsh metal to metal knock and sometimes it's not even there especially in the morning when it's cold, what are some options I could take like adding PROVEN SAFE treatments to the oil, etc?
I'm sorry for the long post but I'm at a loss and I'm just done dealing with this.
