EDIT* FOUND: Longer torsion bolts...now sets FS

Quick history...cranked the torsion bolts all the way up, barely got any lift (maybe an inch, prolly not and I know all vehicles are different) and when I installed the shackles it jacked my ass end up way to high and looked goofy. Took off the shackles and the truck sat level. Left it that way...

Now 2 years later the front end has sagged back down to having about the same rake as stock. My question is...where can I find longer torsion bolts so I can get the normal amount of lift in the front end and add the shackles again so the truck sits level? I know I can get at least another 1.5" out of the front without killing the CV's...

I've read the threads about the longer bolts (10.9 grade M12 100mmx1.75), but no one seems to know where to get them at. WHERE? besides a specialty fastener place...Sorry for bringing this subject up again, but no answers yet!

Thx!

Where the hell did you get this pic!? It's sweet. Where is that?

Also:
I think the only place to get them is a specialty bolt place.

You could try Home Depot, Lowes or another hardware store that sells bolts.

The pic was in front of Ford World headquarters in Dearborn MI when they had their hundered year anniversary. We just got back from muddin it up in Flint, so I decided to break up the 'pretty Mustang' party there and get the dirty truck in the mix.

As far as Home Depot goes, I've tried calling a few specialty bolt places here in PHX and no one has them or can even order them. Do you think it could be that easy? Run down to Home Depot? Most places never have anything that long...

Why won't anyone who's bought them before and sold them on other posts reply and say where they got them??

Home Depot has lots of different size bolts. My suggestion is to take one with you, then you can match it up. If you can find one, it will probably be cheaper than buying them from a specialty store. If you can't find one at least you tried, no harm in trying.

Take the bolt out and take it up to a napa if you have one in your area, they have tons and tons of bolts and diff grade strength bolts, trust me. I will be replacing my bolts with longer ones as well.

Just make sure they're grade 8 bolts.

Hi SoMoneyST:

Metric Class 10.9 bolts (equivalent to ASTM Grade 8) are readily available in the size you need for about $8-10 each. However, the problem is that the threads don't extend all the way to the bolt head. I looked at all my usual sources (McMaster Carr, MSC, Grainger), and the only fully-threaded bolts are Class 8.8 (only about ASTM Grade 5). If you can find Class 10.9 threaded rod, you could cut that to the length you want and weld a nut to one end. However, I haven't been able to find metric threaded rod in anything stronger than Class 8.8 either. You might need to befriend a local specialty hardware supplier to get what you need. Since you'll only be needing 2, don't be surprized if they're very expensive.

Regards,
John.

OK, after searching, calling, being told 'no', saying I'm smoking something....I found a place out of Maryland that will special order these for me fully threaded in M12 100mmx1.75 grade 10.9. Problem is I have to order 10. Anyone need some? They are going to take a couple days to get to them, and them a few more to get to me. Price is $3 a piece + shipping from 85249. Email me at yourmuney27@hotmail.com if you'd like to get in on this with your zip code. It'll be a couple weeks to get to your door from today. 4 pairs up for grabs...I'll take Paypal too.

Yeah i'm in on this, caught me just in time, I don't know what the length on the stock bolt is, do you know how much longer these bolts are over the stock ones? Shipping would be to 63304

Stock are 70mm. These are 30mm longer.

Yeah i'll take a set, let me know what the shipping is and I can send you paypal if thats your desired method of payment ;)

Send me your address and I'll ship them to you as soon as I get them. I'll send you an email with the total before I ship also.

pm sent ;)

Sent you an email SoMoney...

Are there any more of these left? If so i'm in pm me or respond on here and i'll paypal tonight. -James

whats wrong with going to special fastner palce? they arent more expensive, they jsut have the stuff, i got a meter long m6x1.0 threaded rod for $5, that was so i could modify the intake on my toyota to run a 6" tall air filter....

Hey if you ordered them and there are anymore left let me know, I will take a set!!!!

Ryan - How much higher you going before you spring for SAS?

I thought if you cranked torsion bars higher than the factory bolt allowed (and even that far on some X's) that your front ball joints couldn't take the angles....that's part of why Dicon Bros long travel switches to joints with higher angles....?
