I am currently looking at a 03 xlt sport trac 4x4 with a sunroof. It has 69k and they are asking 9k. It has the cover for the bed and it all looks to be in very good condition. I have a 2 and 3 year old that ride with me to daycare on a daily basis. Is the back seat ok for two car seats and another person in between if grandma was in town. I also have a 03 Suzuki Vinson 500 ATV that I would like to haul to riding areas within 30 miles of my home. Does anyone know if a full size 4x4 atv will fit in the back with the tailgate down? Anyone else have any regrets or affirmations after purchasing this truck? Does the price above seem like a reasonable deal? If I purchase this vehicle should I spend the extra money on a after market warranty? Sorry about all of the questions but I do not want to make a 9k dollar mistake.

Thanks

I paid $9k for my fully loaded 02 with 80K miles. Sounds like a deal.

I like my Sport Trac quite a bit, but I had an Explorer before it, so I knew exactly what I was getting into when I bought it. Based upon the list of needs you've provided, I don't know if the Sport Trac would be for you. While three people can fit in the back seat, two car seats and a full grown adult is probably pushing it as far as any sort of comfort is concerned. Along with that your ATV will also not fit in the back of the Sport Trac, so you'd need a trailer for that. I did carry my old KX250 dirt bike in the back of my Sport Trac, but it only fit my about an inch, and the tire overhung the end of the tailgate by about 5-6 inches.

Based upon just those things I'd say a full-sized truck would better suit your needs, but beyond those requirements, I think the Sport Trac would be a great daily driver for you. I have 2 2500HD Silverado's and my Sport Trac, and short of severe off-road duty (which is what one of my 2500HD's is for) or super-heavy hauling (what the other is for ;) ), the Sport Trac does most everything else just as good, if not better, then the big trucks do (better would be parking the thing :D ).

Also, that price doesn't seem too bad, but make sure to check for clogged drains and leaks with the sunroof.

u got pics of the sport trac that u might get

I fit my brothers dirt bikes in the back all the time, I just have about 15 straps and tie downs. lol Im not sure about an ATV. But Ive heard of people getting them to fit.

"About 50" long by 48" wide and 40" between the wheelwells. About 70" long with the tailgate down and bed extender flipped out. It's cold outside, I was measuring fast."

So just measure your ATV and see if it fits. Shoot after taxes and everything my loan is for 13,000 for my 2002 ST 4x4. no leather, no sunroof, just the six cd changer lol. but I would never trade it.

Here are some specs I found for the ATV:

Dimensions
Wheelbase 50.0 in.
Claimed Dry Weight 604 lb
Ground Clearance 9.9 in.
Length/Width/Height 82.5/46.1/47.2 in.
Seat Height 33.9 in.
Fuel Capacity 5.0 gal.

If it does fit, it'll be incredibly tight, though I'm pretty sure the length of the thing won't allow it to fit. I've seen smaller ATV's like the Honda EX quads, but this one might be a bit too large. Then again, there's only one way to know for sure. ;)

hmmm... i thinking it may fit aswell, once you get the front tire over the wheel wheels. I sure hope a raptor 660r will fit, thats what im going to get someday. lol

Thanks for the input. I drive a fair amount for my job and I'm looking for something that isn't as thirsty as a full size truck. I had owned nothing but full size trucks until two years ago but was getting beat up with the gas mileage. The best I could do is 15mpg on the highway with the wind behind me. My wife drives a Grand Cherokee and I was thinking of swapping it out with a sport trac because I miss not having a truck bed. She drives about 40 mile round trip daily. I realize that the sport trac has a very small bed but thought if I could get my atv in the back I could save on buying a trailer for a couple of years until I buy a atv for my 5 year son.
I need to go test drive one and bring it home to see if it fits.

Large ATVs will not fit properly. I say properly because people have always found a way. I tried to load an ATV in my truck and it didn't fit, of course my wise friends and I decided to mess around til it actually got in there and eventually we got it in but because of the angle at which it was loaded, it was unsafe and therefore I wasn't going to go anywhere.

So we took out. Mission failed.

Sport Tracs are good vehicles, if you buy an aftermarket sway bar you'll feel like your driving a regular explorer with a small bed in the back. If you ever did want to improve gas mileage, I suggest a soft bed cover (roughly 150-300$) and a Cold Air Intak (200-400$) I have better gas mileage, I can't give you a definite number but I do go 20-30miles further before a fill-up than I did before. Though I have to admit I floor it alot, I enjoy the HP increase.

I hate to give bad news but if gas mileage is your reason for buying a Sport Trac vs. Full size truck then dont.. A 4X4 Sport Trac will get worse mileage than a fullsize truck. The sport tracs are just to heavy for the 6 cylinder.
