New here and fairly new to the explorer game. I've owned jeeps and ford pickups mostly, but am looking to start a build on a gen 1 explorer I recieved from my grandfather. Just trying to see what options and suggestions you all have for a good trail rig that will also serve as a daily driver to work and back. Thanks, good to be here!

welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!! for these, personally id reccomend a spacer lift iirc for the 1g (have a 2g) and a shackle and or OME lift in the rear, and 31s and a linchbox locker/good limited slip. that will get you really far imo. outside of tjat, spend ya dimes on gear like bumpers and maintainence ;) above 31 you may find you need to regear, so all depends how far you want to go. 31s on this 2g at least is a very DD able combo. high enough to stand out, not too high where its cumbersome!

Welcome to the forum. I'd start with a 302 and manual transmission.
