Im looking at getting a 2000 Explorer EB AWD V8 with 109,000 miles on it. They're asking 7K for it. Is there anything to look out for on these? I heard the engine and transmission on the 5.0 are pretty much bullet proof.

Also there is a one owner 1999 Ford ranger 4x4 regular cab 4.0L OHV at my work with only 11,000 miles on it going for 8K. The only thing I would dislike about the ranger would be the lack of room in the cab.

What do you guys think would be the better buy?

Both seem kinda pricey to me, for 7k that Explorer better be in perfect condition. Maybe in your area they go for more $$$ but here that wouldn't sell for more than $4500 or so.

They are bulletproof. I love my '99 which is virtually identical.

That being said, I know of someone getting their hands on a '00 EB with only 59,000 miles on it and they want $5,900. The opinion was $5,900 was too high, so $7,000 with 50,000 more miles on it seems VERY high.

Yeah they do go for a little more money over here for some reason. It looks to be in perfect shape and the ranger looks like it just came off the show room floor, even under the truck is spotless....I cant make up my mind.

Yeah but V8 Eddies are hard to come by around here and I would have to purchase it through a dealer because im trading mine in that I still owe a little money on and I would finance the new one. Im pretty set on a V8 Eddie. Im staying away from the sohc's...

your trading the rig????

want that V8 power?

That and I have the sohc death rattle and I don't see any sense in putting 1500.00+ into a motor with 170,000 miles on it.

True...well good luck...i hope to be seeing this new car soon on the forum...2000 EB are nice...every feature beside memory seats good luck on your buy

Here is the link to the EB it looks like it's been taken care of but you never know til you see it in person and drive it....

I think Im going to bring the Kelley blue book price in with me tomarow which is way less than they're asking and tell them to give it to me for that lol

Hey Celly, How many miles are on your rig?

Not worth 7000...could see it at 5000

Mine is almost 190,000 miles no major jobs done to it...got the transmission serviced at 100,000 miles.....just replace the fluids and your good to go

actually man I just looked her up on kelly blue book and it's worth 8,650 at a dealer.

EDIT: Found a 97 XLT V8 with only 72K miles for 5900.00....Thats more like it!

That Toreador Red one doesn't look bad. Definitley look at lots of them. I test drove several before I found mine. I was stoked to find out they come with a dark grey interior and taking my time and I got one. See if you could at least see one. I think it's much nicer than the tan.

Mine is just south of 69,000 miles. I've put almost 9,000 of those on in the last few months with two big road trips including over 5,000 on the "header trip" to Kansas. I got it with only 34,000 miles almost 4 years ago. I quickly replaced all the fluids I could with Amsoil synth. I think the EB will last a long time. I've never had any major issues with mine. On the subject of headers, definitely consider them. A "significant mod". :)

I think you'd be very happy with a 5.0 and the EB. The XLT is decent too. I really like the creature comforts of the EB, but XLTs can be found loaded up too.

That $7000-$8000 range seems to be not bad for your region. Also look for '99 and '01. They're almost indentical on the features front. The '98 is marginally different too (mostly cosmetic differences with the different front end styling like the fogs). My favourite renditions of the 2nd gen is definitely 99-01.

Man, I don't know why but all these trucks your finding seem to be going for WAYYYYYY more than I've seen here in NJ. I got my 98 XLT 5.0 for $300 (Needed 2 g's of work though). That EB is stunning and I can see why you'd want it but I'd hold off until you found one for a better price...

He made the comment previously that used prices on 2nd gen Explorers seems to be higher in his part of the country (Oregon). I tested that theory and did some searching, and he was right. There are definitely geographic influences on pricing in the US.

I know what you mean. The 99-01 is my favorite too. Im going to go look at the 97 xlt in a few minutes.

I had a '97 Sport and it was a fun drive. I definitely like the front end styling and rear hatch of the '00 Sport I got next, but the '97 was decent too.

Keep us posted. I'm sure you'll find something out there. It's not like 2nd gens are in demand anymore outside of us freaks!

I read that I just didn't believe it. :) Just seemed so high!

Have them fix the console lid. I did mine for $20 looks like new.
