looking for a part number and/or technical part name

my horn isnt working on my 94 explorer. ive done the trouble shooting & have it narrowed down to a certain part. theres a how to video on you tube & seems to be a common thing. heres a description of what the part looks like & a location of where it is.
on the lower right hand side of the steering column, theres a part that looks to be about 2" x 2" that has two brass pins sticking out that makes contact with a plate thats mounted onto the backside of the steering wheel.
im looking for the part # and/or the technical name for this part that is on the lower right hand side of the steering column that has 2 brass pins sticking out.

ive tried to look it up on the computer, called the dealership & was told that that part doesnt exist, called the local parts stores & was told that they dont have it in their system. ive tried everthing that i could possibly think of & yall are my last resort. please help as im losing my voice & the finger doesnt seem to work either.... lol

Definitely sounds like clockspring to me.

You definitely won't find it in any stores. I know what you're talking about and mine burned up. I ended up wiring the horn to a push-button on the dash. If you're really unlucky, it's messing with your cruise control switches, though, by the sound of it, you just have the horn. If you can find a junkyard, that would be your best bet.

Basically, it's a little black plastic piece with 4 copper probes (or holes for them) with springs that make contact with your horn & cruise control switches. As far as I understand, it's not a clockspring, that was used in later models. This is a more crude and primitive method.

This sounds like "Horn Brush Assembly" p/n 9C899 with cruise, 13A821 without. These part numbers are from the 1994 factory service manual. It appears it was used on many ford models, and there are several new assemblies on a popular auction site. Search with "9c899 horn brush assembly".

The problem is, while I found many horn brush assemblies, none of them match the Explorer. You need the full part number to get the exact one. In my 1991, the horn brush assembly joins with the key sensor, the bong-bong-bong-bong thing that tells you your keys are in the ignition. It's a 3-wire circular connector. I never found one despite tons of searching. Well, at least in a decent price range. I'm sure as heck not going to pay $60+ for one when a push-button switch costs $4.

I just spent a few minutes learning about ford part numbers, and the above poster (I'm going to go with Nate?) is right about more specific part numbers. And, the ones on the popular website will not work, based on what little more I have learned. But, if you take 9C899 and your make and model to a dealer, they should be able to make sense of it. It should be something like: E?7Z-9C899-?
