I have read about different exhaust setups. What I am looking for is a muffler, preferably Flowmaster, that gives a nice moderate tone on the outside (just slightly louder than stock), BUT, quiet on the inside. In other words, I dont really want to hear it when Im driving, but would like to admire it when sitting still.

Any ideas or recomendations are greatly appreciated!:D

Gibson or resonated Magnaflow.

I have the flowmaster 50 series in my 1st gen. It is only slightly louder than stock and I hardly notice it. The more you get on the gas the more noticably it is... IMO it is a direct replacement for a stock setup. The 40 series is rated to be something like 15-20% louder/ more agressive than the 50..

Edit: I have corrected the above post to correctly reflect the series info (I had the #'s reversed). After checking my #'s @ home I have a 50 Series 52456 muffler.

In my 1992 EB, one of the first things I did was replace the stock exhaust with a Flowmaster Delta Force cat back system. I love the way it sound and I think it will sound even better as soon as the weather warms up and I get my new cat in and off my bedroom floor. This added a nice sound to my EX, and it sounds like what you are looking for. Was only about $170.00 with shipping and handling and was bolt on to stock setup. My brother and I put it on after I got off of work in the rain, without jacking the Ex up. Whole removal and installation took less than an hour. Ex doesn’t really sound any louder than stock at idle; until you stop on the gas then you can hear the difference. :redexp:

umm no

actually referring to derocha's comment, the flowmaster 40 series (non delta) is much louder than the 50 series. Here are graphs from Flowmaster's site for comparison:

40 Series (non-delta) This is the loudest muffler FM makes...

And here is the 50 Series Delta Flow (only option):

Hope this helps, these are the 3 main FM mufflers i hear of people getting, with a few exceptions. I also heard of some people gettin' the 70 series' also with comprable results.

There's also the 50 Series SUV, supposedly louder on the inside and quieter on the outside compared to the 50 Delta. I make a couple sound recordings when I had a 60 Delta on my '94. The microphone was on the armrest for the inside and under the rear bumper for the outside. It might seem pretty loud on the outside, but that's only if you were lying on the ground... when standing next to it it wasn't much louder than stock, atleast at idle.

I get better results when I save these mp3s to my computer first (right click on link, save target as..) instead of playing them over the web browser using Quicktime which cuts out a bit during the low frequencies.

Outside 502kb

My bad... I had checked the #'s at home and my muffler is a 50 series 52456. I had them reversed in my post (40 is more aggressive than the 50).. Sorry for the confusion...I have edited my original post with a correction... Thanks ATX_TrunkPunk

no problemo:D just makin sure no one got confused.

What does resonated Magnaflow mean? Is there a difference between getting a Magnaflow Exhaust and a Resonated Magnaflow?

I would check out the Super 40, It's just what you want...
