After reading many of the views on tirerack and here, I am leaning towards the Goodyear Fortera HL Edition. Has anyone had these on their X? Also Consumer Reports just released the NOV edition of its reports and rated the Fortera the TOP tire for SUV's.

If anyone has any experience with these can you give me some insight.

Thanks.

EDIT - What would be the difference if I went from 235/75R15 to a 265/70R15 or 265/75R15? In theory would I use more or less gas? Would my X ride smoother and handle better?

The 265/75R15 is the same size as a 31X10.5R15. I went from 235s to 31s and did not really notice any changes, the speedo is off by about 1-3 mph, and gas milage isn't noticable. I did notice an improvement in handling cause the 31s are a wider tire, hence making the truck sit on a wider base.

One thing...you might have problems with tirerack selling the tires to you because you have an explorer. They (i've heard at least) don't sell anything but stock replacement for our trucks, i guess they think we'll roll over lol.

I purchased a set of Forteras at Ford 2 years ago (maybe less) and loved them. Unfortunately, some untimely financial woes kept me from making necessary repairs to keep them aligned and they were shot in a little more than a year. The ride was excellent, extremely quiet, and it handled wonderfully. If i ever need to replace my Kelly's i'll go back to them in a heartbeat. They look REAL nice as well...

FYI - They ran about $125/ea mounted & balanced at Ford at the time - so i basically wasted $550 in ONE YEAR! MY BAD!!!
