2002 Ford Explorer V8
Hi All,

Found this site for folks that own Ford Explorers. I've owned 3 and wouldn't want any other SUV. Here's my deal.

I have a 2002 Explorer V8, that I take great care of and have serviced at every milestone.

Took in a couple of weeks ago for routine oil change. I have never had any oil leaks etc. Now, it's developed a leak around the oil filter (housing). I've had it back several times and they said my car is just "old"...well it didn't leak before I took it in. They replaced oil filter and drain plug, and still leaks. They said they didn't do anything to cause the leak...I am a bit suspect however.

Is there a way to cause a leak if one did not exist before? Over tightening or loosening something in the near vicinity of the oil filter? Oil is pooling on cross member bars and behind where the filter attaches. Hopefully someone may know what has happened.

They say they are not responsible for the leak...well it wasn't leaking before the oil change and there is no mention of visible oil leak noted on the comments of the service order, WTF???

Appreciate any feedback/help...

if the filter is over/under tightened, if the oil plug is over/under tightened, if there is a leak in the oil pan... couple possibilities.

it could be some gunk or grime that caused it not to seal "so well" too... ask them to please replace the filter and make sure it seals nice.
