There is a base XLT, XLT Premium (easily spotted because it has step bars and fog lights) and an Andrenalin (easily spotted because of monochrome paint and trim). '03-up is a good choice because you get 4 wheel disc brakes. Everything has the same engine and tranny, 4.0 SOHC and automatic. (Ya, I know there is an XLS trim and manual tranny but they're so rare that it's not really worth mentioning.)

The OE shocks are junk so replace them if they are original and rock on. I replaced the shocks on my old '05 at 12,000 miles because it friggen' wasn't safe to drive.

The official trim packages JohnnyO mentioned I believe only really started with 03+ models. There was no trim badging for 01 and 02 models. I guess my 01 would have been an XLT or Limited. The only options I was missing was the upgraded stereo/subwoofer and the cargo lid.

yea im looking to spend like 10 grand in cash but around here theirs only 01 and 02's. and the rest r u know 06 and up. and even the people selling the 01 and 02's are very over priced with high miles but i guess thats what you get when a lot is selling it, so im just holding out trying to find a good deal. everything though besdies something new is atleast being sold with 90 to 100,000 miles on it, is that a big problem to look out for or can you still find a truck thats good with that kinda mileage. my gf's dad has an 03 with 38,000 on it and every bell and wistle under the sun, i sure wish he'd give it up but that doesnt look like its happening any time soon.

38,000 miles isn't reasonable to expect to find, at that age. If you have 100,000 miles on a 2001/2002, that's not a lot of miles. That isn't high miles, the life of the vehicles is well over 200,000 with proper maintenance.

i have an 01 sport but not a sport trac and it has 92,334 miles on it. My neighbor son has an 03 sport trac and he is trying to sell it for 8,500 and it has like 112k miles on it but i am all the way located in southern california.

So I guess my 5 speed 4x4 is a pretty rare vehicle out there.

Well, I certainly haven't seen many in my 9 years of owning mine. Years ago on myst there was one guy posting from Norther Cali that had one.

I'm in the same boat as you are. I'd like to buy a Sport Trac, but all the negative reviews/complaints floating around on the internet is keeping me from making the final decision.

It's like a lot of people talk high of Sport Trac's then after you buy one you're like 'Oh man, I just drove it XXXX amount of miles and XXXXX completely failed.' Then the guy that was pushing Sport Trac a week ago replies 'Oh yeah, that happened to me too. It's normal.'

lol

Pretty cool, before I got my ST I just wanted a small truck with 4 doors, V6, 4x4 and stick shift (not an easy find in Miami FL). I didnt even look for the ST the owner came to me as he was leaving the country.
