loose rear view mirror

hi everyone, i just put a auto dimming mirror in my truck last week, and i have one problem. the mirror is loose and bounces around like crazy, and it is driving me nuts! the stock mirror was tight to the button on the windshield, but auto dimming one is not, and i can not for the life of me figure out how to make it tight so it will not giggle around. anyone else have this problem, and have found a cure?

Do you have the Allen hex head set screw on your mirror or is it the spring loaded style? The spring type doesn't have an adjustment. My 95 has this, and it's always getting out of position.

no allen head, if it was that, i would tighten it. it has the spring. i was looking at my stock mirror, and i think what i will try doing is swapping the the spring (if that is it) that goes around the outside of the base of the mirror. that is if they are the same

First, make sure you have the right mount on the window for the mirror. You probably do.

Take a soft mallet and tap on the mirror mount downward very carefully. You probably don't have it on all the way...even though you think it is. If it still won't tighten, then check the mounts out and see where the problem is.
