Loss of A/C at highway speeds.

Our 1997 Eddie Bauer Explorer has automatic climate control. Cruising at 70mph on the highway, the A/C stops putting out cold air and instead puts out warm air. A/C had refrigerant added/checked and is fine. We have no experience with auto climate control. A/C seems to work fine around town but not at highway speeds. Anyone know of any problems with these systems? We have an Explorer Haynes manual but it doesn't help with auto climate. Engine is a 5.0 and we bought the vehicle last month. Thanks.
