The other day I noticed my fan locking up and then the coolant light flashing on.

I checked the coolant level and it was way down. Added more ( 1/2 gal) and made sure all the old crud was off the manifold.

Took the truck out and ran it for 20 miles or so. Cooling OK but could smell anti freeze. Popped the hood and coolant way down and puddles in the intake manifold area around the first freeze plug and big puddles in the rear area of manifold. Hard to tell but under the thermostat (I will call it back housing ) it seems to be seeping, but I don't think thats the major area.

So before I call for appointment Monday with my local dealer, am I thinking Intake Manifold gasket and how many $$$$.

Thanks,

PS: I did check the other posting.

Check the Thermostat housing where it means the engine. I feel for ya, and I'm so sick of reading about these explorers having these cooling system problems. Ford just wants you to break out your checkbook instead of admitting it's a defect.

Well you are right. Everything there was leaking, and it cost me $300.00 to get it fixed. $200 labor and $100 parts.

Oh well FORD..fix or repair daily

Told ya! Didn't even charge you. I'm not physic, but this problem is so predictable FORD needs to open their eyes. This stupid defect also cost me money out of my pocket, and I WANT it back!

thanks moo....

i was having the same problem with my 4.0 and found out that my lower thermostat housing had warped and had to buy a new one from ford this mourning for 58bucks with seals and all i think ur the only one ive found who mentioned this in a thread i was ready to take the entire intake manifold apart so once again thanks and i ended up saving 450 that would have been my labor cost from the dealership

Glad to help someone out.
