Hey:

When we turn on the AC, I loose a lot of engine power, which is very noticable on the highway. I'm currently running 33 " tires and 4:10 Gears. The X runs fine with out the AC on. Any suggestions or just don't use AC.

You mean your A/C works? :D

I notice a conisderable loss of power also. That's normal tho. Mine doesnt work anyway so I dont really have anything to worry about. :(

Welcome to the Site. From your signature you are already have the bug.

The A/C has always been a power draw. You'll notice it in your Gas Milage also.

For the record try to keep your signature to 6 lines. I think you have 12-13 lines.

Thanks Alto. I shortened my signature

You'll use more gas driving at speed with the windows down, than using the a/c. Is power loss normal? I don't belive my truck has a noticible power loss when I use the a/c.

I can tell no difference with or without the AC on in my 4.0 SOHC.

I agree. During normal driving, I can't tell when my a/c comes on and goes off in my 4.0 OHV. The only time I can tell a difference is during hard acceleration, at that point I usually cut the a/c off for a few "freed" horses.

dont know about the 4.0's, but the 5 liter has AC cut off @ wide open throttle.

MAN AM I THE ONLY ONE WITH OUT A/C?

yea the power loss just means your a/c is on, in my moms old honda man you could really tell when you turned the a/c on , that thing booged down alot

you guys up north could prolly get by without AC, but were i live AC is the difference between life and death;)

i can get by, i have for 3 hot and HUMID summers, but i would enjoy the company of A/C thats for sure hehehe

So, if there is something wrong causing the AC to rob the vehicle of so much power, very noticable at highway speeds, where should I start looking??

And if this normal

The "X" runs great other wise.

1st gens have a WOT a/c cutoff as well.

The a/c robs mine of power, and it's noticeable. I think that is normal...all my vehicles have done it except my Corvette, but it has a L82 350 in it so it's hard to slow it down anyways. The compressor is attached to the serpentine belt, and when the comp is running, it's just another thing to drag down the engine a little. That's why racers often go with electric cooling fans instead of belt driven fans...and also why racers like to use lightweight pulleys...eg. billet pulleys and so on.. they drag less. Gives them a few more hp.
