Loud Clang or Bang when 4x4 engages

Does anyone know if its normal for a bang to be heard from the front when the front wheels auto engage (when in 2 wheel drive.)Ive been doing some work in my STEEP back yard and when the front engages it sounds like something is about to grenade?? :roll:

thats just your transfer case engaging. mine makes the same noise. if possible you should put it in park or neutral when you engage 4WD

Mine does the same in auto. I was told its from rust build up etc and Ive heard the same noise in other peoples as well as a jeep.
