my explorer made a new noise today. when i started it up after going to an afternoon movie, it made a loud noise for about 2 or 3 km's. kind of like a loud fan noise, at first i thought it was the heater fan but it wasn't. i made another stop and it was there immediately but went away after about 1 minute. at home i started it up and that loud noise was there again, it was louder listening from under the driver door area than it was from the front with the hood open. when i turned the key off and removed it the engine kept going(for 10 seconds or so) and deiseled a bit. This is the coldest day we've had so far -8Celcius (18 F)and windy. the only thing i've changed lately is a new belt but it doesn't sound like it's coming from there. Help!

fan clutch???

hey have you checked your fan clutch?? try spinning the fan(engine off of course) and see if it is real hard to turn or extremely easy, that is what was wrong with mine, as for the run on/dieseling i am not sure!

do you think it could be possible for the starter motor to keep going after the motor has started?
