can I switch out my low emissions ecm with a non -low emissions ecm? I have another 98 explorer that has lots of cool parts on it now, but it was bought in massachussetts, so it has a low emissions ecm. Thats a hard computer to grab HP from so I would like to switch it out then start dyno tunning-----or is it nessesary to switch them out at all if tunned by a computer while on a dyno? Dyno guys feel free to jump in here, Should I change it, is it possible to change it, is it necessary to change it??

Never heard of a low emission emc.

You can reflash your computer with a tune from an SCT dealer and the use of an XCal II flasher.

Good luck ....

well I had never heard of a low emissions computer either but then again I always lived in florida were there isn't any testing. So long story short while living in mass. I bought an explorer same as the 98 I already had and thought I had a computer problem (turned out to be the fuel pump switch). While at the greenleaf auto salvage yard in sterling mass. I gave the guy at the pats counter my vin number and he said 'oh, a low emissions computer" and explained there was a difference in computers between the low emissions states like cali, mass and some others, and the computers in the other states. I was hoping someone might be able to tell me weather or not the computers are the same or not and if the only difference is the programming in them.I guess I could just try to have it reprogrammed and see if it works. Thanks aldive---good to talk to you again, its been a few years.
