California Low Emission Vehicle Standards

I just recently found out that my 2000 Ford Explorer XLT, which I bought used in Idaho, came from the state of California. The vehicle complies with all low emission state standards. How will all those anti-smog filters affect performance and engine life? I have always been told not to buy a car from California because of this problem. How could I uninstall those filters since I live in Idaho where pollution laws aren't as strict?
