Lucas Oil claims an increase octane rating by 30 points (equal to 3 octane). Lucas come-up as number one ,two or three for octane boosters and is used by tuners like me for a reason.

Ok, I read 3 points and think 3 points.

There was an article out which slammed several Octane Boosters and I remember it mentioning 3 the point thing. I bet we read the same article.

I have run up to 9lbs of boost with 3 1/4" pulley, 2:1 ratio on the current build. That should be very close to 400hp, but the exhaust is small. It's probably closer to 375hp because of the exhaust restriction at the headers and downpipes/cats. I believe the headers will work, though larger, 5/8", tuned, long tubes would be better. The biggest restriction in my build now is the 2 1/4" downs with stock cats.

Been very busy prepping the house and it goes on the market this week. We could be moving as early as July 15th.

Oh man I have run that gauntlet before

Our big move it took almost 4 months to sell our house so we ended up making the 1400 mile journey in November… it took me 11 one way trips to get all of our stuff out here. I spent the final days getting rid of 15+ years of explorer parts collection…
I had something like 35 tires to dispose of, 10+ rear hatches and a ton of explorer glass all went to the dump ($$$$$)
I gave my neighbor so many things simply because we had no more space and no more time
The same neighbor moved here 4 years later! It took him 4 years to get his house finished in the market find a house here and make the move…

WORTH IT!!!

Good
Luck!!

I am out of commission for another month at least, but it's going quick. We should be moved by 18th.

I am looking forward to getting settled-in and I will get to better downpipes and high flow cats.

I think I also want selectable 4wheel and Low for some mild wheeling.

Happy Independence Day!

I got started early to replace the right side upper control arm. I don't know how it is with stock exhaust manifolds, but their was no way of getting the bolts out without removing the header. That was not happening, I found it easier to cut through the rubber and bolts with a saws-all in order to remove it. I bought new bolts with up to 2 degrees positive and negative camber. It was much easier to get the bolts in with the alignment cam washer/bushing loose. It was easier to align with the rounded cams with a tape measure and level.

I also put load handler shocks back on the rear, Air Adjust shocks from Monroe. I am making a couple hauls of stuff to the new house and want to be able to level it when loaded-up for camping.

I think I will rid of the AWD before I work the exhaust.......................I want 4low for cruising steeps and more technical sections in the Forest and BLM lands.

It was nice to get a break from packing, it's almost done.............................

I use Lucas because Kenne Bell suggests it, I have researched it, and I disagree with you. Lucas does raise octane by 3 full points, making our 91 premium here 94 or I would have blown this build up! I agree, there are others which do not.

I have no interest in another injection system which if goes bad or dry will blow-up my build. As I stated the few trips to camp and play lower than 3,500' will get the benefit of Lucas Octane boost. Lower than that and one can also get higher octane, add 2 points for that and it will be fine.

I have calculated this out with a spreadsheet which is based on good formula's for Boost, Power and Octane while tuning my own build. I have knowledge and experience that tells me this works.

Kenne Bell Tuning by OctaneNotesOctane Pts
Based on minimum of 91 Octane Premium in Denver (+10 for E85)3 11/16
0.00
1000′ gain in altitude = .5 octane.5500
2.75
1 air fuel ratio = 2 octane.1.1
2.20
1° retard = -.5 octane10
5.00
ECT drop 10 degrees = 1 octane (Swapped 160 vs stock 192)
3.00
Lucas Octane Boost Needed for Lower Altitude or boost above 6lbs.
0.00
1psi boost requires +1.5 octane.-6.60
-9.90
TOTAL (Safety Margin = 3 points of octane = 60 degrees ambient temp. increase.)
3.05
on the pump usually it uses RON, research octane number, which runs it through variable compression motor and compares the knock points with that of mixes of iso octane and heptane. the efficiency of booster is measured in points, which corresponds to 1/10 of a number ie 1 point is .1 on the pump number. thst being said, it depends on how much its being diluted into, so if the lucas advertises 3 points (which makes 87 into 87.3), if the whole bottle is added to say 2 gallons like in a drag fuel cell, as opposed to the 20 gallon explorer tank, its efficacy is reduced. How much does Gumout Octane Booster increase the octane rating of fuel? – Gumout

that said, if you had meant points in regard to numbers or units (ie when you see 87), then disregard this :) just a wording difference i believe.

happy 4th! the air adjust shocks sure are nice for heavy loads!!!!

The new Mother Earth Station has been established! We got about 50 boxes to unpack and then we get out in the X and explore.

Damn, got a little preignition. I was climbing a hill, at 5,000' in 100 degree plus heat on Monday. I was able to slow a bit and drop a gear to stop it. I am going to adjust my tune for less timing at low rpm and high load.

Big move!

We got 2/3's of the property fenced and a shed today, yay!

The house is settled, now I can settle the garage, make a work bench, and then get to my rig, soon, hopefully, really.

I have been out enough around here on BLM and Forest land. I want the 4WD swap for 4 low and I am going to see about some custom exhaust work. The AWD may have to get me through winter, but I likely will have time for the exhaust, soon, hopefully, really.......................and a full 400 horses!

I wonder if I can open-up the ball flange a bit on the TMH's?? I mean to grind them out a bit if needed for flow? I am not sure how large the openings are?

If I DIY, these could be the start. 2.5 inch Ball flange adapters for a 5.0 Mustang:
